It will happen sooner of the later. The people of the state of California will eventually have a majority that will vote for same-sex marriages. Don't get me started on what it means to redefine the English language and the meaning of words.
But regardless of which side of the debate you stand, Governor Schwartzenegger has pledged to veto the bill recently passed by the California legislature, which usurps the will of the people of the state and affirms gay marriages by law.
Proposition 22 legalizing same-sex marriages, and voted on in the 2000 elections, was soundly defeated by an overwhelming majority of voters. However, the California legislature has taken matters into their own hands and ignored the voice of the majority.
Arnold's press secretary said "We cannot have a system where the people vote and the Legislature derails that vote. Out of respect for the will of the people, the governor will veto (the bill)."
Wow, a politician that actually listens to the will of the people? Or perhaps he is just pandering. Whatever the case, the public reason is sound and one that more politians and legislators should apply before attempting to pass any law.

Sometimes, a Governor has to veto something something for the greater good. If the majority of the people in California are against legalizing same sex marriage, then their will should be in force. It's part of our democratic system. Otherwise, many groups can put people into the Legislature to lobby for causes that do not represent the majority of the people's votes or preferences. Besides, what good is going to come out from having people marrying the same gender anyway? It only benefits them, not society in general or the future of our children, the schools and the country in general. Their freedoms should not be greater than the freedoms of the majority. The choice of the majority should always prevail or we'd be in serious trouble as a society in general.

Joel, are you aware that there is a "Legal Gay Marriage Documents" link on the top of this site today? From Google AdSense.

Such judgment from the follower of a man who taught not to judge. Oh the hypocrisy of it all.

I would like to vote that last comment as the worst in blog history.
