Best Day/Worst Day

Carl D. Atwood, a 73-year old man from Indiana, won $57,000 on a lottery TV show. He taped the program for later broadcast and headed home. On his way to the grocery store where he had bought his winning ticket, a black pickup truck rounded the corner and ran into him. The impact caused head injuries which led to Mr. Atwood's death. Ouch.

    Joel --

Can't get the "lottery story" link to work. Is the problem on my end?
Personally I'm not a lottery type as I feel it's like doing an end run around God. My Bible says "my God shall supply all my needs ..." So why buy a ticket if my needs are being taken care of? Wouldn't that be like spitting in od's eye? I didn't intend this to sound "holier than thou", just a personal opinion. :-)

  2. Twonky Says:

But Patriot, do you have a job? If so, are you spitting in God's eye? After all, he'll provide all your needs right? Why do you have to work?

  3. Joel Comm Says:

    Fixed it!

  4. patriot Says:

Ahhhh, Mr. Twonky, always nice to hear from you! At a point a few years ago a job was one of my needs and I believe God provided the one I have now. And after all, 2nd Thessalonians 3:10 says, (paraphrase mine) "if you don't work , you don't eat." Say, what "burnt" you on Christianity anyway? Seems to me that somewhere in the past you made a statement re: being happy about having been delivered from Christianity. Just wondering.

  5. Joel Comm Says:

Patriot, do you work for Relevant mag by any chance? Or did you just put that because you like the site?

  6. Twonky Says:

I was never burned by anything. I gave christianity a shot and it didn't take.

    I don't really need a security blanket anyways. ;-)

I'm happy to stand or fall on my own merits now.

LOL.. I think those "famous last words" would fit perfectly on this page...

  8. Twonky Says:

Well, at least you're in the fantasy realm, which is appropriate!

  9. patriot Says:

1st- Joel, no I don't work for Relevant magazine, just enjoy it. 2nd- Mr. Twonky, I'm quite enjoying this "security blanket" as you call it and really can't imagine life without it. Interesting reference of yours though re: living in the fantasy realm, hmmmmmmmmmm!

    Patriot!

More power to you! I think it's awesome to have the kind of faith that I see some people have. I really wish I could be like that, seriously. I see people with strong faith generally more happy than the rest. I've tried it even.

There are just too many inconsistencies with all the faiths that it makes someone like me (a skeptic already) more skeptical.

But I always say, if there IS a god and it is the God of the Bible, then he knows what it will take to make me a believer.

  11. patriot Says:

Ahhh, Mr. Twonky ... I personally believe that a certain level of skepticism can be a good thing. I just wouldn't want to see it develop into nihilism. I'd love to discuss this more but I have to head out to that "job" we discussed earlier. I should be home by 5:00 a.m. if the weather calms down a bit, & I'll check back. They're closing roads & highways here on my end now because of blowing snow. I have to get into work as I'm the supervisor. Plus I'll want to see if the boys in the lottery pool at work won any part of this weekend's $25 mil! ; )
