Best Movies of All Time: Setting the Stage

Posted on November 18, 2003 03:36 PM by Joel Comm

Tomorrow, I begin a series titled "The Best Movies of All Time". First of all, you should know that I am only counting movies that are presently in my DVD library (600+ titles), so some movies are not even getting a chance at this honor. However, since the majority of films have been released on DVD, and there are very few that I am looking forward to being published, I believe this list to be fairly comprehensive. There are two notable exceptions which may eventually make the list when they are released. Those exceptions are Star Wars: A New Hope and Schindler's List (which I have not yet seen).

Also note that I am finding it difficult to both narrow down the titles I have AND rank them according to my preference. How do you pick an absolute favorite of all time? Truly a difficult task when there are so many classics to pick from. I have narrowed it down to fifteen titles and will attempt to rank the films liek this. If I was on a desert island and only had fifteen movies, which would I choose? Now suppose I only have fourteen, which would I eliminate? And so on and so on. I am attempting to discount the fact that if stranded on a desert island I may wish to select "happy" movies to counter the depression I would undoubtedly experience from being stranded with Gilligan and The Skipper. Of course, there is always Ginger and Mary Jane.

The fun begins tomorrow with #15. Stay tuned...

In your previous entry you state you have over 600 titles. In this one you say you have over 6040 titles. Which is it?

Why are you leading us on?

Why can't you tell the truth?

Picky picky picky. Typo. So there.

Just wanted to make sure you weren't lying about it like George Bush lied about Iraq.

Also, if you are stranded on a desert island that just happens to have electricity to play a TV and DVD player, why not just rig it up so it causes a problem and the electric company will have to send someone out to fix it. Then hitch a ride with that person.

Of course if they only have a one person boat you may have to take it out while they're repairing the electric problem. Since you're a christian you would certainly let the mainland know that their electrician is stranded though.

Or you could just tell the electrician that you need help getting off the island and he could tell someone when he gets back to the mainland.

Of course all this moot if the electric company is TU Electric. They never fix anything.

wtf r u on bout? i dnt think its fair having you decide the 15 best films if i were you i would have a vote and have people write down their top 15 and the ones that are repeated enough times get ranked. see thats the sensible way. y dnt u give that a go and then mayb u wont get loads of backstabbin emabarrassin remarks made by obviously more clever people than you. think bout it wiseguy do u satisfy just yourself out of boredom and stress or do you satisfy other people aswell knowing that their vote could make a difference
