A few months back, BlockBuster Video sent me a press kit encouraging me to try their new online DVD rental service. I had used Netflix once before, but wasn't too thrilled with their service at the time. I decided to give BlockBuster a try.
After two months as a member, I must confess that I am terribly impressed with BlockBuster's service! Here's how it works. You pay a monthly fee of $19.95 which allows you to rent up to three DVDs at one time. Once you login to the site, you select movies that you want to put in your rental queue. You can then prioritize your queue depending on which movies you would like to receive first. Then sit back and wait for the DVDs in your mailbox!
Delivery is VERY fast. I had my first movies two days after I placed the order. The DVDs come in a slick envelope that doubles as a postage-paid return envelope. So when you are finished with a movie, slip it back in the sleeve and put it in the mailbox. You get an email notification every time they ship a DVD as well as whenever they receive a rental back from you.
You can keep movies as LONG as you want with NO late fees. And, to make the offer sweeter, you receive two coupons in your account each month which you can print out and take to any BlockBuster for TWO FREE in-store rentals. And now they allow you to use the two free rentals for GAMES as well!
I am sold on BlockBuster Video online and can highly recommend it to any of you. They also offer a FREE two-week TRIAL of their service, so what are you waiting for? Click here!

Hi Joel,
I was a Netflix customer also....and I thought their service was pretty great...although I wasn't thrilled when they raised the rate a couple bucks, but it wasn't that big a deal.
I just wanted to ask you, what are the reasons you like this service better than Netflix? From what you described, Blockbuster's is pretty much identical to Netflix's service(except for the 2 free coupons thing).

Two reasons. First, their price was $2.00 cheaper than Netflix. And from my understanding, they are dropping it to $17.95/month this month! On top of that, the two in-store freebies/month are icing on the cake. While I don't need more than 3 DVD rentals at a time, the fact that I can use the two in-store coupons for video games is a huge plus. BlockBuster wins this round. Netflix is in trouble.

Joel,
I just watched, with great interest, the piece you posted concerning Global Warming. I've been sceptical from day one due to the lack of serious scientific data from truly credible scientists. I hope you do not succumb to any outside pressure to remove this side of the argument from your site. Clearly the subjective voices are shouting down the objective ones. I had been waiting for Dr. David Helfand to announce that warming is a real problem, but now I see that this is not in the realm of possibility.
(P.S. I only stumbled onto your site by accident as I was trying to go to Blockbuster and their site was down temporarily and you were next in line.)
Sincerely,
George Ewing

Sorry Joel,
But I must disagree..I just cancelled my account Total Access with BlockBuster Video... I had the three out at a time plus unlimited in store exchanges for $16.99 a month.. In the spring of '07 changed it to 3 out at a time and a limit of 5 in store exchanges... If you wanted the unlimited in store exchanges the price went to $21.99 a month, an almost 33% increase.. Than in December of '07 they had another 20% increase...I also found that new releases had long wait times and the stores only had a limited numbers of copies..There are rumors that the company has financial issues.. The stock has dropped from a high of $30.00 in May of '02 to $3.00 a share currently.. They have been closing store nationwide and opening up few new ones... I went to Netflix where I'm paying $9.99 a month and I'm using the unlimited download videos which are great, and no trip to the store to return them...
