It used to be that you had to have graphic design skills to create a compelling photo quote. You know the ones I am talking about. They are the meme-like pictures featuring an inspirational, fun or witty quote by someone else or yourself. Oftentimes these photoquotes reference famous people. Other times, they are just funny pictures with words.
Either way, Instagram and Pinterest have put images at the forefront of online content, and now there is an app that makes it incredibly easy to create your own wordquotes. It’s called WordSwag.
Open Wordswag and you are greeted with a slick, attractive interface. The main screen gives you an idea of the type of pictures you can make with the app. It’s a free app with plenty of word styles to choose from, but it does cost $1.99 to unlock all of the more advanced styles. It’s worth it, in my humble opinion.
The app gives you plenty of backgrounds to choose from. However, you can also take a picture using your device or just select an existing photo from your library.
This is where it gets fun. There are dozens of prefab quotes you can choose from. Some are profound and others are silly. But it’s the ability to input custom text that allows you to unleash your creativity. I selected a photo of the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas and entered some text of my own.
There are currently approximately 40 different word styles available in Wordswag. They run the gamut on font type and display style. I chose one called “Shout Out” for this photo.
Using Wordswag’s “Typomatic” technology, you are able to create attractive typefaces as simple as chewing gum.
Once you select your style, you can select colors (including various multi-color spectrums, as well as resize and rotate your text. There are five presets for each style of text, or you can roll the dice and randomize your style. To finish out your picture, you can optimize both transparency and background brightness.
When you’ve got your picture the way you want it, simply click DONE. you may then share your creation to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or deliver it via email. If you want to add another phrase in a different style, simply click Reswag and off you go!
Here are some images I have created and posted to my social profiles. They usually get quite a number of likes, comments and shares, so it’s a great way to create content in an easily consumable manner.
I’m a fan of Wordswag and recommend it for anyone who wants to create wordquote photos quickly and easily. It’s fun!
