Earn more Passive Income with AdSense for Domains

Posted on December 13, 2008 12:33 AM by Joel Comm

A collective groan was heard from domain parking services as Google stepped up to take ground and plant an AdSense flag.

AdSense for Domains allows you to point your parked domains to a Google server where they will be all-too-happy to manage them for you.

There's really nothing to it.

Simply tell Google which domains you want to park with them.

Change your DNS to the specifications Google provides.

Select your color scheme and grab your code.

Voila! AdSense revenue can now be earned on your unused parked domains.

All domains have to be approved per Google's TOS, but I would imagine they won't be too strict.

I wonder what Frank Schilling and the other big players think about all this. I think this can be good for web publishers. Now I wonder how much of a difference the per click revenue will be for Google parked domains versus what is earned with parking services. I am anxious to visit this a few months down the road when there will be data available to compare.

And I wonder about how much weight Google will give to these parked domains in SERPs.

This is a great opportunity for all those generic URL "type-in" domain names. Interesting to see how the search bars will render these domains too, since the browsers have made the search the priority and made the URL bar a little inconvenient.

At the very least it will give many industries something to write and speculate about for the coming months to divert media attention.

Things to watch - if the buzz begins that people are making great money on parked domains it will generate a huge interest in the purchasing of generic domains again which will benefit many registrars and it will breath some life into the auction houses sponsoring domain auctions.

A very good book written by former Wall Street Journal reporter David Kesmodel is The Domain Game which really explains the power and mindset behind generic domain names and how people make money with domain names.

I think the value of the Internet's Virtual Real Estate values has just risen.

Yes, Watson, it would appear that the game's afoot.

Take a deep breath and relax everyone. It's not Googland, this is becoming GoogSpace: that's an increasingly big slice of cyberspace. It's increasingly tough to stay independent of all this 'help' they're offering.

Still being an internet marketing newbie, I opted to pay for Go Daddy;s Cash Parking service. I figured that with 1300+ domains that we have, wewill be building one at a time it would be a good option. Does anyone have an option on this service, as I have not earned nearly quite as much as I thought that I would have.

You see, we are building one site at a time so that we can prove to ourselves and others that we can do this.

Our first, original site was launched ten weeks ago and we already have an Alexa ranking of 1.33 million. Not too bad for a site that has yet to be optimized for keywords!

So in closing, can anyone offer their opinion on if I made the right choice by going with Go Daddy's Cash Parking service, or should I have gone with AdSense?

    Thanks, all, for your time!

    Hi Joel Comm,

I'm new to the blogging world. I'm not even knowledgeable in HTMLs so I hired a web developer to design my template. I visited some forums already and I was informed that some people really makes some money in parking their domains. One of that I believe was the first owner of the friendster-layouts website.

Anyhow, I'm still educating myself in the power of the internet to make some passive income for myself.

    Cheers to your website!

With Godaddy you need to pay for the cash parking service, with google it is free. I guess you can earn more money with google AdSense, have anybody some experience from google's cash parking and willing to comment, thanks.

The hard part is acquiring domains with type in traffic.

Incidentally, I had only recently found out that there was a such thing as "Adsense for Domains"... I was back on campus a couple weeks ago, to attend a church service, and then went to the library, to print out info on possibilities for making money through the web. I had been on Adsense for awhile, but after just finding out about Adsense for Domains, I saw the news about how it is now "open to all publishers." I was wondering if that meant that all domains, even those with low-traffic, will be able to be used, for the Adsense for Domains program.

I have found that that is indeed the case.

Nonetheless, I think that it may indeed be a challenge... Getting people to click advertisements and links, with Adsense for Content, is tough enough - Optimization helps, but nothing beats getting additional traffic, for getting more clicks on ads.

I would be interested in knowing if there are any optimization tips for the Adsense for Domains program... Considering that the ads are run on the domains, by Google, and I'm not aware of any customization options for that, I don't know what we could do, other than own domains that would somehow get a high amount of traffic... I guess we could link to our pending domains - but still, I don't know how common it is, for web users to click on ads that are on parked domains - since it becomes very clear immediately, that the domain is unused, causing people to want to go back, or to another site (then again, that latter part could in helpful, with regards to this).

Maybe a new book could be written, about how to make profits from buying and selling domain names... (unless that's already been written about).

    Joel,
is A/S for Domains able cover expenses for initial domain purchase and prolongation?
What does you experience say now?
    Thank,
    Valery
