Everyone and their grandmother is calling themselves a Social Media EXPERT these days. I'm not sure what the term really means any more.
While I still use the term from time to time (even on this blog for SEO purposes), I fancy myself more of a Social Media EVANGELIST. I'm out there beating the drum to get businesses to use social media as part of their marketing mix.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak on the topic of Twitter for business at the Colorado American Marketing Association. I wanted to start out my talk with a joke, but I realized I didn't have a good punchline.
So I tweeted about it!

I received a number of responses. Some were funny, some not-so-much.

So what's your answer? I need a GREAT punchline for this riddle!

Trick question. Social media experts don't change light bulbs; they tell everyone else how to use Social Media to make millions changing light bulbs.
Wish I could help. Social media is all a buzz- change to glow and we create one expert creates his own light. That is a direction not an answer unfortunately. Being funny on demand - hard stuff. See if Robin Williams tweets? Have a great day! @BB2ley
One, but it will be done virtually
So few people are actually getting more out of social media than "marketed to" that it's nearly a waste of time for them to even have a Twitter account.
The venue is so rapidly being obliterated by spammers and noise that if I had started on Twitter today - I don't think I'd fool with it.
Social media experts?
How would one even measure that? Large number of followers?
The most overlooked value of Twitter is the search.twitter.com function to FIND prospects and opportunities and you don't need an expert to type in the keywords for your business, follow people, and hope to connect with a few of the right folks.
Now, for what I really think...

Zero!
We don't need no stinking lightbulbs!
We use computers and cell phones - no lightbulbs required.
Answer to your riddle - depending on the timing of your delivery and with a big pause...
Q: How Many Social Media Experts Does it Take to Change a Lightbulb?
A: Virtually One.
@justincasetv
Shouldn't the question be "how many social media experts does it take to update the status of a lightbulb?"
Just one if said social media expert has attended the free webinar "social media secrets of light bulb changing" which teaches methods used by light bulb changing gurus, which others have paid over $2000 to learn.
Just one: who has electrician as follower.
Now .... that's a true social media expert, right?
Social Media Experts don't change light bulbs ... that would make them handy men.
