If I owned WorldVillage.com, I would...

Posted on October 27, 2003 07:16 PM by Joel Comm

I have been running WorldVillage.com since 1995. In those years, I have seen all the ups and downs of the dotcom era. However, I am at a fork in the road, attempting to discern what direction I should go next.

And so I ask you, my loyal readers. Take a look at WorldVillage.com. Think about our newsletter. If this web site was yours, what would YOU do with it? What would you want to see? What would make you want to visit it regularly?

Please click YOUR COMMENTS below and toss in your two cents. I really want to hear from you!

I know you don't want to hear this, but if it were mine, I'd do away with it altogether and merge it into DOD. There are parts of WorldVillage I would really like to see at DOD. The games, the news articles, the site reviews, the downloads, the site of the day among others. But without forums like DOD, there's really not much to do at WorldVillage. That's just me though. I understand that DOD and WorldVillage are completely different atmospheres. WorldVillage is extremely family-friendly whereas DOD is too but not so much....lol
There needs to be more interactive things to do besides games and reading articles at WorldVillage. There's too many links that take you to other websites. Somehow combining WV into DOD without losing the integrity of what your original intentions were when you started both websites is what I would do if I owned WorldVillage.

    Hi Joel,
I'd not recomend to anyone to do this, still it's what I'd do. Keep the family oreintation, but I'd ever so slowly turn it into [or more than you alredy have] a tool of Democracy [real Democracy, not the filth they peddle in it's place]a forum of advocacy, a forum of change and challenges, a social conscience if you will. [then, likely keep my head down and away from open windows -smile, just kidding]

You should probably add some more content to the site. It really needs some resources for parents. Maybe something like activities they can do with their kids. You might want to research sites that you can purchase.

While you are in the area, go to the very best chocolate candy maker in Pennsylvania. It's in York, Pa, right near where you are at. Old German Family traditions. The Wolfgang Chocolate Co. Please don't miss it. you will enjoy the tour. Of the factory, not a make believe one.

IF IT WERE ME THAT OWNED THIS WEBSITE I WOULD TRY TO PUT MORE INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES AND MAYBE A SECTION FOR ADOPTED CHILDREN THAT ARE SEARCHING FOR SIBLINGS SUCH AS I AM. THE WEBSITE IT SELF IS GOOD AND I QUITE OFTEN VISIT IT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AN TRY TO KEEP IT AS FAMILY ORIENTED AS POSSIBLE.

Change the site's name, call it something close to what it really is -- World Village is a great moniker for a truly world-oriented, human-friendly site -- not yours. Let someone else have it.
