Last month I was in Atlanta for the Big Seminar. Now usually I'm not much of a morning person, but when I took a peek at Friday's schedule, I knew I had to wake up early...
Over the past five years or so I'd been hearing the first speaker's name over and over again...
"Joel you've got to check out this young kid Jermaine. He's from the inner-city, but Corey Rudl is taking him under his wing, and apparently he's doing really well in his niche".
Of course, Corey is no longer with us, but what he started five years ago has become an incredible success story, and is a testament to his legacy.
Bringing us up to date, I was curious and wanted to hear more.
"He's doing a million plus a year teaching people how to play the piano!"
I have to come clean with you...
I was interested in meeting Jermaine from the start, because I've been playing the piano for years... Often struggling my way through sheet music, and taking lesson after lesson.
So, when I heard that he was running a three million dollar company teaching piano I was shocked. But then they told me that he was making all that money in an even SMALLER section of that tiny market... He was teaching people how to play music by EAR.
Now, I've had my own share of great stories... Creating what would become Yahoo Games, writing a New York Times Bestseller, making millions and millions online, and finally creating "The Next Internet Millionaire" reality show....
Really, I thought I'd heard it all, but a 24 year old kid from the ghetto making millions online in such an obscure niche blew my mind... He obviously had his stuff together, and that's why I was up early and in my suit and tie in time for his speech at Big Seminar.
It was SO worth it.
Jermaine wowed the audience many times over, from his story, to the down and dirty details about how he's turned such a tiny niche into an empire of wealth.
Obviously, I was impressed.
At the end of Jermaine's speech, he offered a one time coaching program to the people in the room that totalled up to $1,983 (he was born in 1983, so he figured he'd remember that number) and I watched as dozens of people rushed to the back of the room, knowing that this was one guy they absolutely had to learn from.
I went back to talk to Jermaine too... But not just for marketing information, I wanted him to help me learn to play that darn piano!
After a long (and thoroughly entertaining) conversation, I asked Jermaine when he'd be willing to take on more clients, and share more of his hard earned experience... I told him that he really needed to hurry, because I wanted to share all the details with my list, because I knew you'd like him as much as I did.
