Junk Fax Madness

Posted on October 12, 2004 10:49 PM by Joel Comm

Do you have a fax machine? If so, has your number been released to the spammers of the fax world? Once it has, your fax machine will never be the same.

Junk Fax has cluttered my fax machine for nearly two years. I get several junk faxes a week, promoting the latest penny stock, travel club or health insurance scheme. I have been throwing away the faxes as the removal numbers at the bottom seem to do no good.

But now I have an opportunity to fight back. Several months ago, I googled my way to a Yahoo! Group focused on the discussion of junk faxes. As it turns out, an attorney who has won several suits against junk fax companies runs the group.

A recent announcement proclaimed an opportunity to make the junk fax perpetrators pay. JunkFax.org is leading a class-action lawsuit against the worst junk fax companies, seeking damages that would compensate the victims and hopefully put the companies out of business.

I have been retaining my faxes for the past month and intend to continue collecting them so that I might join in this suit. Their faxes tie up my fax line and hit my bottom line in ink and paper costs. My fax machine is not interested in their spam and neither am I. Here's to hoping that we can win one.

Any decent fax machine will do it's job - it's just the bottom-grade ones that give the product a bad name. :)

Every Junk fax I get I report to the FCC, just hoping something might happen to reduce the number that are sent. Knowing not to rely on it.

Occasionally I get one that has a fax reply number, and this is my chance to vent and have some fun. Having a computer that can send faxes, I turn the tables on the senders and send warning messages to them about the practice being illegal and advising that they will be reported to the FCC.
The warning fax I send is not a one time deal, since my computer fax program can repeat faxes, I usally send 100 (automatically) so they can find out what a nuisance getting junk faxes really is.

Boy, I hate these junk faxes too!
