It's one thing to have consenting adults eat worms on a reality show.
It's a totally different story when children are being exploited for entertainment.
And that is exactly what is taking place with Kid Nation, CBS television's much-hyped reality show.
I linked to it, not to encourage anyone to watch, but the view to the trailer to see just how despicable this program is.
The premise is that forty children, ages 8 to 15, are placed in a deserted New Mexico town for forty days, where they will atempt to build a "better world for tomorrow".

You have GOT to be kidding me!
Ok, first of all, the parents of these children ought to be arrested. What kind of parent would put their children in a situation like this with NO ADULT SUPERVISION? They are children, for crying out loud.
This is like Lord of the Flies, only it's not fiction... it's really happening.
Did the producer's of the show break any laws in the creation of this show?
Some Hollywood types think so.
Shames on Les Moonves, CBS, the show sponsors, the parents of these children and anyone who supports this show by watching it.

Well actually you are a little off thinking they have "NO ADULT SUPERVISION."
Think about it. They have cameramen and even have a medical staff on hand. Adults are watching these kids all the time. The kids are simply making the decisions for how their "world" works, but there is still some structure with competitions that are set up for the kids and directed by the host.
No one dropped 40 kids into the middle of nowhere and said, "Have a good summer!"
I realize people are split on how they feel about a show like this, but please try to keep the facts straight first.
There were tons of adults around- the host, the camera men, they had medis, and child psychologists for goodness sake. These kids were better supervised there than they would have been at home.
And every one is talking about child labour laws- come on- did any one actually ask the kids what they thought. People are just assuming they must have been overworked because there was no adult helping them.
If you really want to know what happened- ask a kid that went!

I have seen one episode that promotes children's independence and their being responsible. They promote sports and teamwork. So, it is not negative at all. And regarding child labor, they all have adult supervision and on working? is that a good way to train your child? Just a thought because life is hard we might as well make them practice in small ways
