I have been a computer gamer ever since I encountered Space Invaders on my TRS-80 (that REALLY dates me) about 25 years ago. Dozens of computer games are published every year, but only a handful of those I try actually keep my attention for the duration of the game. The last game to do so we Star Wars Galaxies (which has since lost my attention and I am cancelling my account).
I had a great bit of fun with The Simpsons: Hit and Run, a Grand Theft Auto style game without the violence and other anti-social material.
But the latest game to earn its place in my Game Hall of Fame (hmmm.. I smell another series here after I complete my list of the 15 Best Movies Ever), is a much-awaited title from UbiSoft, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.
The 3rd sequel in the long-running series originally created by Jordan Mechner during the "golden age" of gaming, the Prince of Persia is a thrilling action/adventure platform game through some of the most beautiful scenery, stunning action and incredible sounds to ever grace the PC. Whereas the last game, Prince of Persia 3D, was a stunning failure, Sands of Time more than makes up for previous mistakes by providing an simple gaming experience that is simple enough for anyone to enjoy, yet engaging enough for veteran gamers to get their money's worth.
Good guys, evil villains, treacherous traps, perilous pitfalls, mind-bending puzzles, some of the absolute coolest moves you've ever seen, and of course, a beautiful sidekick. What more could you ask for? Prince of Persia: Sands of Time will undoubtedly reside in my collection long after I have completed the game.
