Another beautiful morning in Red River! We've been eating breakfast in the room all week, so we decided to go out for eggs and pancakes this morning. We went to The Hole Thing Donut Shop and were very pleased with the meal. It was pricy, but that's the way it goes.
Afterwards, we found a nice park where the kids could play, the dog could sniff, and Mary and I could sit and enjoy the surroundings. Ok, so I played a little too.
Next, we followed a road that twisted, turned and climbed its way higher and higher around a mountain. Once we reached a high point, we stopped to explore. Zachary found a tree and estimated its age by counting the rings. He informed us that it was approximately 200 years old.
And my sweet little girl picked wildflowers, preparing a lovely bouquet which she brought back to the room and put in water.
We came back to the room and Mary napped for a bit. I got on the computer to do some work and play games.
Around 5pm, we went back to The Timbers restaurant. It was one of the best restaurants we visited this week, so we gave it another chance. We went next door for some ice cream and pie for desert.
Finally, in a "it's a small world" type of twist, my Red River, Day 4 blog entry received a comment from Sara Saint-Hogan. Among the rest of her comments, Sara stated, "I hope you tried the fudge at the Candy Crate and got to see the Melodrama on Friday Night at the Red River Inn (I'm one of the stars)."
Interestingly enough, we already had tickets for the show at The Red River Inn Mine Shaft Theater and got to experience it this evening. It was truly an old-fashioned cowboy melodrama, complete with heroes and villians. The audience was encouraged to participate by cheering and booing in all the right places. I couldn't find an updated article describing this year's show, but the link above will take you to a review of last year's performance. I forgot to bring the camera tonight, sorry!
We all had a great time. Jenna said it was maybe the best theatre we have ever taken her to. And yours truly heckled the hero with a zinger that got the biggest laugh of the night. I think I embarrased Mary, though. Hehehe...
After the show, Sara informed me that the owner of The Red River Candy Mountain Fudge shop wanted us to come back tomorrow and enjoy some complimentary fudge. So if you ever go there, tell them Joel Comm sent ya!
Tomorrow is our last full day. We don't have ANY plans. It may be a lazy, enjoy-the-mountains and prepare-to-go-home-but-I-don't-wanna-go day.
