Our last day and we've really got nothing left that we want to do. We considered going to Colorado to see the sand dunes near Alamosa, but it was over 1.5 hours away and it was going to be hot. So we opted to have lunch in town and play it by ear. But first, we stopped at the Red River Candy Mountain Fudge shop. As you may recall from yesterday's entry, the manager asked us to come by and get some free fudge.
While there, we ran into Sara Saint-Hogan. She wasn't in her costume from the previous night, but I told her I'd give her 15 minutes of fame and put her in my blog. (ok, more like 15 seconds of fame...)

We then went to Shotgun Willie's, a greasy burger joint.
We took our food to go and went to a local park to enjoy a picnic. We stayed there for over an hour taking in the scenery and letting the kids play. Storms threatened as we heard thunder repeatedly. Yet, no rain.
Speaking of strange weather in New Mexico, Mary took photos of the sky to demonstrate what we have been seeing all week. One direction, we have storm clouds...

On the way back to the room, Zachary spotted a deer off the road. We drove up a mountain yesterday and didn't see any wildlife. But we enter town and there it is.
Tonight we are returning to Sundance for mexican food. We'll spend the rest of the day lazing around the room, packing and playing games with the kids. It's been a GREAT week for all of us, but we are ready to go home. Tomorrow we'll be leaving around 10 am. That should get us home around 8 pm. I hope to stop in Amarillo on the way and see the Cadillac Ranch.

Sounds like you guys had a great time in New Mexico. Just a comment on the strange weather. In southern Colorado and New Mexico mountains you get the monsoon rains every afternoon for a short spell. It is usually welcome as it cools you off from the heat of the day and cleans the air at the same time! I'm from Colorado but now live in Idaho and your pictures and comments really made me homesick!
