We left Edmond mid-morning, around 9:30 am, and head for Red River, New Mexico. It was a VERY hot day for a drive, with temperatures reaching 102 degrees in Texas. The scenery is mostly plains and desert... not much to see.
However, we DID see the largest cross in the Western Hemisphere. This sucker was huge. And you can kind of see it in this photo, except for the truck that blocked the view as Mary was taking the photo.

The trip was fairly painless as I bought a TV monitor for the car so that kids could play games on the Playstation 2, as well as watch DVDs. We listened to music, played some road games, stopped for the occasional potty break and snack, and counted the miles until our destination.
Finally, we approached the mountains!

When we finally arrived, Socrates was thrilled to be out of his crate. He loves to go places with us. Check out the smile on his face!

Well, the kids are in bed and Mary and I are pooped. We did get an hour going into this timezone, but it feels late. I'm sure we'll have to adjust to the altitude as well (8000+ feet above sea level). What will tomorrow bring? We are playing it be ear and really want to rest and soak up the beautiful scenery. Until then...

Enjoyed your page. It took me a sec to realize that it was going back in time as I descended the page. If there was any way to flip the order it might read better. I was born and raised in Philly, and it was great to have American history in school and know they are talking about right downtown, and then go walk down around there at your leisure. I loved Betsey Ross' house the best because it was so small and had the spiral staircase. When i was in school in the early 70s, the Liberty Bell was still in Independence Hall in a very small area. You could only see it on a tour and they let you get right up to it and touch it all over.
I live in Northern NJ and work in NYC, but still get down to Philly to have a cheesesteak from time to time. Take care.
