Red River, Day 3

Posted on July 22, 2003 08:33 PM by Joel Comm

I slept in this morning and Mary didn't feel great, so we planned on taking it easy today and not doing anything too physical. We jumped in the van and set out for Taos, about 45 minutes away. On the way, I was reading about things to do in the area and asked Mary to take a detour. About 20 minutes later, we found the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River Recreation Area. It was pretty hot today, and by this time we were out in the desert. So we didn't stay long, but it was still an awesome site to see.

Cool looking tree, huh? The area was full of them.

Afterwards, we continued on the journey to Taos. I wish I had checked comments on yesterday's entry first as Josh Williams had some excellent recommendations. Oh well. We managed to enjoy the trip anyway.

After dealing with a great deal of traffic in Taos (these people have a SERIOUS traffic flow problem), we found the town square with plenty of shopping. We had lunch at Ogilvie's. It rained a bunch while we were there. It's been amazing to watch the weather patterns here. It has been absolutely gorgeous in the morning... blue skies and perfect temperatures. In the afternoon, the clouds enter the picture and thunderheads build. Crash! Boom! It dumps a bunch of rain in a matter of minutes, and tapers to a drizzle. Then it clears up and it is beautiful again.

We did some shopping in Taos and came back to the room. Socrates was glad to see us as he had been alone for six hours.

On the to-do list...

  • I am going to try and take Jenna horseback riding this week. Mary is still in recovery from her surgery and isn't supposed to ride. Zach doesn't really want to. But it has been all that Jenna can talk about. I'm not crazy about horses, but she loves them, so we'll probably go.

  • We're going to the local theatre on Friday evening. It is a melodrama called "A Cowboy Saves the Day... Again"

  • The kids want to ride the go-karts in town.

And I'm sure we'll think of more. I am just enjoying the leisure and not having to go anywhere or do anything. Life is too hectic. I think I am going to quit my job, check out of society and become a hermit in the mountains. That way I'd never have to shave... hmmmm...

      Comm Family,
Please, please do not miss the Sundance Mexican restuarant!!!! I have gone to RR each year since I was young...and that was a long time ago!! Please also if you are there for Sunday attend Faith Mountain Fellowship. Dear friends of mine attend there. They own the Timberline Lodge. They are orginially from Edmond. Randy and Kim Swanson.

Enjoy the beauty and serenity in Red River. My most favorite place on earth!!!

Don't forget to eat at Sundance!!!!!
      Blessings,
