I'm in "The biggest little city in the world", Reno, Nevada, attending a meeting of the minds with other Internet entrepreneurs. Strolling through the streets of Reno last night left me quite unimpressed with the city. It feels like a throwback to 1970's Las Vegas, only cleaner.
We dined at a very expensive, yet mediocre, buffet. But the highlight of the evening was visiting with some of the other attendees, each from a different niche of Internet expertise.
Today is Day 1 of our conference, so I am up bright and early prepared to learn.

I am a lifetime resident of Nevada and visit San Francisco three to four times a year due to the fact that it is a gorgeous city. During the morning broadcast on our local radio station KOH, I have listened to Monica "dog" San Francisco numerous times in the last couple of days. Then on top of it, she makes Reno sound like it is so beautiful. NOT !!! If you were to speak with several locals who have resided here for many years, you would find out that the majority do not go to the downtown area due to the filth and lack of concern the City of Reno has.
Comparing San Francisco to Reno it like comparing apples to oranges. I don't know about you, but other than during a special event, have you ever seen the large quantity of foot traffic in Reno that is daily in San Francisco? I don't think so. Reno is a ghost town compared to San Francisco.
Let me also point out the vacant Mapes site sat for years until City Hall moved into the building across the street and obviously got tired of staring at the vacant dirt. It was then and only then that the City took action and planted a few flowers, trees, and grass. If you really looked at the lot, the flowers are dying and weeds are growing around the perimeter of the entire lot. Just like the rest of the City, time was taken to do a "quick fix" on an eye sore, but once again, the City has failed to maintain the property. I don't know about you, but travel the streets of this City and you will notice the large amount of weeds growing along the medians and curbs. You will also notice the peeling paint of many guardrails, the grafitti, the bums, the drug dealers and the hookers.
Obviously, Monica has never experienced San Francisco in any form other than a tourist! Some day, I recommend she stay in the Lombard Street area. Stroll down Union Street (not Union Square) and Chestnut Street. Monica may also want to visit the Marina District and fly a kite. Try riding a bike over the Golden Gate Bridge into Sausalito or on Angel Island. There is more atmosphere there than there ever will be in Reno.
The visitor's comment about the City of Reno is head on. "Strolling through the streets of Reno last night left me quite unimpressed with the city. It feels like a throwback to 1970's Las Vegas, only cleaner." It is a ghost town.
Respectfully submitted,
Stacy
