We have just returned from Spring Break vacation with the kids. It's good to be home!
We spent the week in Ruidoso, New Mexico, a quaint village in the southern Rocky Mountains. Near the base of Sierra Blanca (elev 12003), Ruidoso is a blend of old west charm, mountain wilderness and desert atmosphere. Known for being the stomping grounds of Billy the Kid, Ruidoso is also home to the Mescalero Apache Indians (who operate the Ski Apache mountain and the Inn of the Mountain Gods Hotel and Casino).
We stayed in a tiny cabin in town and enjoyed touring the area.
High points of the trip:
Apart from having to check my email daily and keep up with the web sites, it was a relaxing trip.
And speaking of Internet connections, I need to toss in an additional comment. The place we stayed at did not have any connectivity, not even a phone. But I found a resort just down the road that had a broadband connection. The name of the place is the Dan Dee Cabins, currently owned by two incredibly sweet people, Kemp and Terry Christian.
These folks were very kind and allowed me to sit in their lobby to use their Internet connection even though I wasn't a guest at their place. Accomodating and gracious would be putting it mildly!
I had a chance to drive their property and it is absolutely wonderful. Their cabins are very nice and there is plenty for families to do on the property. I told Terry that if we come back to Ruidoso, we are definitely going to stay with them. AND, she said that I could offer YOU, my readers, a 5% discount, if you decide to lodge with Dan Dee Cabins when in Ruidoso. Simply tell Kemp or Terry that you read about their place on my blog and they will be happy to give you a discount. It is a great place and a fair price for Ruidoso Lodging.
Now that I am back from vacation, it is back to work for me. So many sites to build, so little time...
Thanks for the tip on the Dan Dee Cabins. We go to Ruidoso once a year with inlaws that live in Las Cruces. We stayed in a private cabin with no Internet access.

My husband and I stayed at the Cozy Cabins for the 1st time and it was TERRIBLE!! These cabins are mngd by Sierra Vista Realty. We have stayed in other locations and have never gone through this type of experience. We wanted to try something different, different area, a little bigger, etc.. but that was a mistake with these cabins. First of all they charged a 1-time cleaning fee of $55 for the 2bd cabin called the Apple Blossom, which we didn't mind until check-in when their paperwork advised there will be an additional $20 for dishes not washed and also stated to throw your own trash! So we did not understand what was the $55 fee for? Then the gas furnance did not work (we were there for 2 days like this) so they sent someone to check it who said it was low on gas and would have it filled, but never came back to check if the pilot was turned on, and we had our 1yr old son with us. I left a message wasn't called back but was told when we checkd out they (mgmnt)tried to call but couldn't get through, yet no one was sent to check out the issue we were having with no heat..knowing I left a message regarding it, advising it did not appear the heater was working still. The mgmnt. never apologized but just went on with excuses!!! We will never stay there nor recommend it to family and friends who go up there frequently. Just beware and steer away from the COZY CABINS who also manage CANYON CREEK LODGE/aka Sierra Vista Realty.........
