Hardly a week goes by that you don't hear about the newest/latest/greatest/world's-best-thing-since-sliced-bread ebook, software or member site.
I confess, I do like to share quality products and services with my readers, but there are many that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
Why not?
Because they aren't in your best interests.
Yes, there is money to be made in selling "stuff".
And while I have no problem with earning commissions, my reputation is far more important to me.
Unfortunately, there are many marketers who are just looking for a quick buck at the expense of their customers. We've seen it happen again and again, most recently with someone who created a blatant knock-off of my AdSense Templates, providing a seriously inferior product that won't do anything for the people who purchased it.
I have a problem with that. You should too.
I believe it is time for Internet marketers to RAISE the bar on the products and services they offer to their customers. For those who create products and services, the focus should be on the customer FIRST and foremost. I subscribe to the belief that if you pursue excellence in all you do, people will want what you have.
That's why it is important to differentiate between a tactic and a strategy.
In the realm of Internet marketing, we frequently see people hop from one way of making money online to another way of making money online. For these people, it may be building spam sites for AdSense one month and trying to turn paid clicks into paying clicks the next month. It's nothing more than chasing the latest fad in order to attempt to go where the money appears to be. Pursuing tactics usually leads to failure because there is no real blueprint for success.
Strategies, on the other hand, are methods of conducting business with the end in mind. While that end should include turning a profit, it more importantly focuses on actually building a business that is designed to turn that profit for a long period of time. And if done properly, the value of the business will increase over time, thereby creating an asset that can be sold for a far more significant amount.
Are you chasing tactics or implementing strategies?
