(Written by guest contributor Chris Harper) Have you ever seen a television commercial that just drives you nuts because of the spokesperson they use? I can think of at least two regional companies here in Colorado that fall into that category for me. In both cases, the "actor" has a close tie to the company being advertised. For one it's the owner, and for the other one it's the owner's kid that serves as their... Continue Reading

(Written by guest contributor Chris Harper) Unless you're some super creative genius who's trying to keep your work pure of outside influence (aka a liar), then you're always on the lookout for some new inspiration. Inspiration is a funny thing. It seems to hide itself in different places, waiting for someone to stumble upon it at just the right time. Oftentimes, it's not even where you'd expect to find it. And other times, it seems... Continue Reading

It's been said that the only difference between men and boys are the price of their toys. I don't know if that's still true, but I do know that I've always been into gadgets. Raised on video games (I remember when Space Invaders and PacMan showed up next to pinball machines), I've always had a thing for electronics. I owned the first cartridge-based video game system that didn't require overlays on your television screen. This... Continue Reading

Get your idea noticed by using this clean design principle. Advances in media have created the most ad-resistant breed of consumer to date. Recent studies have found that consumers are, on average, exposed to 3,000 commercial messages per day in one form or another, from the boring copy-laden radio commercials to the flashing skyscraper ads on my favorite websites, from the cluttered newspaper coupons to illegible billboards on the side of the bus and... I've seen some really clever things done with ads on the Web. I've seen some pretty dumb things too, like whack-a-mole banners and flashing skyscrapers that make you want to look anywhere but at the ad. But some of the ideas have been incredibly creative. When Kontera first wheeled out its system, I loved the fact that its ads were so unobtrusive. When Chitika created its eMiniMalls and then its Premium ads, I thought the... Continue Reading

I've got a pretty colorful past. I got my first job when I was fourteen-years old, working behind the counter of a fast-food restaurant at Northbrook Court shopping mall in Northbrook, Illinois. After all, I needed to save up money to buy a TRS-80 Model I computer from Radio Shack! Once I acquired my driver's license, I worked in the health & beauty department at Venture. Yes, I was a stockboy. At the age of... Continue Reading

Wouldn't it be great if we could optimize our websites for AdSense then just kick back and enjoy the income? We wouldn't have to worry about trying new ad formats or checking new strategies or wondering what else we could be doing to increase our revenues. We certainly wouldn't have to watch out for the sort of change that could radically affect the way our pages are arranged. One such change could be just around... Continue Reading

We' ve all seen the commercials of orphaned children on late night television. The images tear at our hearts, but it is so easy for us to turn a blind eye to their plight.
Ken Surritte is a great friend of mine. Not only is he a great guy, but he also has an extremely compassionate heart for people who are in need. Continue Reading

The Swift Boat Vets have two new advertisements which are due to run during Monday Night Football on October 18th. They are incredibly persuasive and might even break through the hard shell of some Kerry diehards. At the very least, they will push some more of those "undecideds" to the Bush column. Well done SwiftVets. Thank you for having the courage to stand up and call Kerry on the carpet. And thank you for your... Continue Reading

Serious or superfluous? Truth or propaganda? These are some of the questions we must ask as we view political campaign commercials. Often influential and sometimes backfiring, political parties and their public relations teams attempt to discuss the issues of the day and portray their candidate as the best man for the job. Often, this entails little more than communicating how their opponent is the worst man for the job. The Living Room Candidate is a... Continue Reading

There is no better tool to defeat John Kerry than his own words. A new eleven-minute video is now available online. It is John Kerry, in his own words, basically falling on his sword. It is a conservative's dream and I am certain we will see some of this video in Bush commercials this campaign season. Liberals BEWARE! It will take much courage to watch this video. Definitely more than watching Michael Moore's schlockfest. Take... Continue Reading

I've been telling you about a newcomer on the video game/DVD rental market, GameZNFlix.com. They have finally launched their new site and they just announced that Ben Curtis (the former spokesman for Dell Computer) is going to be appearing in their new television commercials. This is a huge coup for GameZNFlix.com as they seek to compete with Netflix in the huge DVD rental market. The thing that makes their company different is that the monthly... Continue Reading

When I look back on the past few years of technological advancements, several computer-driven products cause me to wax eloquently. My iPaq 3835 has been a trusty PDA for almost two years. But it has lost its shine and there are newer models that have stolen my affections. My Dell laptop rocks, but in a mere few months I am certain its big brother will find me coveting at its front door. My Pioneer CD... Continue Reading

You've got to see this. Honda has come up with one of the best tv commercials I have ever seen. The ad took five months of pre-production and 605 takes to get it right. It is called "Cog". Enjoy it here Continue Reading
