As you know, I've been building websites since 1995. I've always been a big fan of creating content-rich sites that bring value to others. That's why I have always spoken against creating spammy sites designed to game the search engines. It's not a good model for building a long-term business. I've sold a number of my sites over the years. In 1998, Yahoo! purchased my multiplayer game site, ClassicGames.com. Today you know it as Yahoo... Continue Reading

Despite what the doomsayers would have you believe, there is plenty of opportunity to conduct business online. However, there is a big difference between trying to make money online and running a business online. The make money online pitch has unfortunately become synonymous with "get rich quick." The mentality is that you simply create a product and make money selling it. That's NOT building a business. That's trying to make a few bucks. Maybe it... Continue Reading

It can be tempting to get wrapped up in all of these things, and there is no denying that they are all very important to your business. Part of project planning is knowing when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em, as a wise man once said. No matter how exciting or cool you might think a project is, some of them just don't become as profitable as you would like. It's important to set some boundaries and budget limits at the outset, so that you don't keep pouring money and effort into something that isn't going to go anywhere. Here... Continue Reading

Failure. The word is laced with negative connotations. That's why I think failure gets a bum rap. Failing at something is not necessarily a bad thing. It just means you are trying. And it means you have found a way to not succeed. Thomas Edison went through thousands of experiments before his first lightbulb was illuminated. Ben Franklin is quoted as stating, "I didn't fail the test, I just found one hundred ways to do... Continue Reading

The following email was sent to me by one of the creators of The Internet Marketing World Cup. I told them I would consider updating my previous blog entry based on what he shared with me. After further consideration, I thought I would just let IMWC's point-of-view speak for itself. With that said, here is the entire email sent to me. It is thoughtful and I admire the IMWC team for proactively contacting me and... Continue Reading

Depending on whom you talk to, the long form sales page can generate some of the most heated discussion among Internet marketers. Why do people use them? There is just one pro to long form sales pages to counteract all the criticism, but... Continue Reading

I've been a public speaker for a number of years.
Whether I am keynoting, conducting a workshop or doing a breakout session, I am passionate about my subject matter.
Everyone has different purposes for speaking. I do it because I must. I am strangely compelled and driven to share my knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
And when I speak, I have three goals in mind.

I've given away a ton of stuff in my time. Ebooks, special reports, software, you name it. Of course, my blog content is free too. All of those free things were valuable. Often, they were products that people had been paying hundreds of dollars for... until I decided to give them away for nothing. There's no point in handing out the kinds of products that no one wants. That doesn't do any good at all. Continue Reading
