Clickbank Clarifies FTC-Compliant Policies

Posted on April 9, 2011 7:12 AM

Over the past couple years, information marketers have come under greater scrutiny by the United States Federal Trade Commission. The FTC has taken several companies and individuals to task for deceptive Internet marketing practices. As the largest seller of information products online, Clickbank.com is now issuing clearer guidelines for the types of products and/or marketing practices that will be more closely scrutinized going forward. In other words, they are going to be working harder to... Continue Reading

Standards for Ethical Internet Marketing

Posted on February 16, 2011 12:38 AM

I recently wrote a few articles that created quite a bit of response from my readers. Where is the Integrity in Internet Marketing? challenged many of the all-too-common tactics used by unscrupulous marketers. I invited my readers to share their thoughts and experiences related to these issues, and the comments that followed were both insightful and instructional. Let's face it. When it comes to selling a product or service, marketing approaches are all over the... Continue Reading

The First Months Are Hard

Posted on January 19, 2011 4:41 PM

I receive a lot of feedback from people who have read my books and used my information products. Much of that feedback is positive. There's nothing better than reading an email from someone who's doubled their AdSense income after reading my book or picked up more clients after using Twitter. It lets me feel like I'm really making a difference. Continue Reading

Who Do YOU Trust?

Posted on January 12, 2011 12:01 AM

A couple days ago I blogged about the lack of integrity amongst some Internet marketers. The post attracted thousands of readers and many comments were posted. Clearly, this topic is one on many people's minds. It almost feels like picking at scabs because there is a great deal of wounding in this area. While I appreciate the kind words people shared, this issue is NOT about me. This is about an industry that has been... Continue Reading

Where is the Integrity in Internet Marketing?

Posted on January 10, 2011 1:03 AM

While I have been doing business online since 1995, I entered the Internet marketing arena in 2005. When I began selling an ebook detailing my strategies for making money with websites using Google AdSense, I found myself at the forefront of the marketplace. In the years that followed, I was sucked into a swirling vortex of product launches, live events and teleseminars. I met many other Internet marketers and developed relationships with some. Over the... Continue Reading

10 Common Internet Marketing Mistakes

Posted on November 24, 2010 11:40 AM

(Written by guest contributor Dan Nickerson) In preparation for writing this article I thought I would look for a great quote about learning from your mistakes. You know what...that was a mistake, because honestly there are a ton of them online. They all boil down to one basic principle: You can learn far more from your mistakes than from your successes. Wordpress Theme for Affiliate Marketers Copycat

Posted on September 25, 2010 7:24 AM

Recently I was sent a link promoting a new Wordpress theme designed just for affiliate marketers and people wanting to build niche sites. Being the creator of the Socrates Theme, I had to take a look. Sure enough. Here come the copycats. I continue to be amazed at the utter lack of creativity in people who pass themselves off as "experts." Not only is the headline and a bunch of the copy on this new... Continue Reading

Upsell Insanity

Posted on September 24, 2010 2:05 AM

It's not uncommon for marketers to use upsells and downsells in order to gain a new customer and make a sale. Downsells typically offer the same product or some derivative of that product at a discounted price. Upsells will usually come after a sale has been made, and offer extra goods or services for an additional fee. There's nothing wrong with upselling or downselling in theory. But I do believe there are cases where integrity... Continue Reading

The Internet Marketing World Cup - A Rebuttal

Posted on September 16, 2010 9:24 PM

The following email was sent to me by one of the creators of The Internet Marketing World Cup. I told them I would consider updating my previous blog entry based on what he shared with me. After further consideration, I thought I would just let IMWC's point-of-view speak for itself. With that said, here is the entire email sent to me. It is thoughtful and I admire the IMWC team for proactively contacting me and... Continue Reading

A Look at the Long Form Sales Page

Posted on September 7, 2010 3:36 PM

Depending on whom you talk to, the long form sales page can generate some of the most heated discussion among Internet marketers. Lots of people love to hate this element of the sales process and are not shy about saying so. Critics find them annoying, cheesy, ugly, and obnoxious. So what's the flip side? Why do people use them? There is just one pro to long form sales pages to counteract all the criticism, but... Continue Reading

Attn: Internet Marketers. Learn what a Joint Venture is.

Posted on September 5, 2010 6:57 PM

If you have spent any time at all in the Internet marketing space, you are bound to be invited to become an affiliate for someone's product or service. However, in all likelihood the invitation will come in the form of "Would you like to JV with me?" JV is short for joint venture. And that is NOT what you are being invited to do. It's my hope that a few marketers will read this and... Continue Reading

The Internet Marketing World Cup - What's the Score?

Posted on August 26, 2010 10:33 AM

I received an email solicitation today to take part in an alleged competition that is due to take place starting in October. It's called (brace yourself...) "The Internet Marketing World Cup" (goooooooooalllll!) It is likely you will be hearing more about this in the future so I thought it would be interesting to dissect it and share some thoughts. Holes in the Fabric of Twitter

Posted on August 23, 2010 3:09 PM

(Written by guest contributor Tim Golen) Twitter grows more popular each and every day and more and more users are discovering it and putting it to use. Since the beginning, Twitter has struggled to meet this demand and it has been a big challenge for them to not only meet the current demand that their users have, but also to provide additional value to those users. One of the reasons that I have been reluctant... Continue Reading
