Do you attribute value to people based on their status?

I had the privilege of delivering the keynote speech at AffCon2010 in Denver this year. The show was visited by hundreds of merchants and affiliates, so there was plenty of great networking to be had. The WebMasterRadio.fm crew was there, so I have took the opportunity to do my radio show live from the tradeshow floor. Speaking with attendees alongside Dan Nickerson, the show was quite fun to do. As toddlers, the first word from our mouths is typically not the word our parents hope to hear. In place of the much anticipated "mama" or "dada" often comes the word "no." Why is that? Probably because as parents we spend so much time instructing our little ones in what not to do! Many people discover me for the first time through any number of products or services. For some it is my iPhone applications. For others it is my book on making money with Google, The AdSense Code. Then there are those who know me from my sites that focus on affiliate marketing. Still others first found me through my social media presence or books (eg: Twitter Power). Whenever I speak from the stage, people are always... Continue Reading

While viewing my Twitter stream, I encountered a tweet from an associate that included an expletive. We're talking the F-bomb. I've heard this person speak before and I was reminded of how often he cursed in a keynote before thousands of people. While I have great respect for this indivdual and what he has accomplished, I couldn't help but wonder if he knew how much of his audience he was alienating. I put out a... Continue Reading

Things change fast in this business -- that's nothing new. Change can be your best friend or your worst enemy depending on how you deal with it within your organization. Maintaining flexibility is cliché (and usually overstated) and in my opinion rarely defined in a specific context. An expert in a particular area of focus laying out a roadmap for maintaining flexibility is incredibly valuable. A keynote speaker telling you he achieved success by... Continue Reading

Wow, what an incredible day! Wait until you hear this. I thought it was going to be a day like every other day. But you never know what kind of curve balls life is going to toss your way. Here's how it started... First of all I wake up and find this email in my box from a producer at a MAJOR cable network ... "Congratulations on your show, 'The Next Internet Millionaire.' We've reviewed... Continue Reading

I've been wanting to meet Jason Calacanis face-to-face for some time. For those that don't know, Jason is the co-creator of Weblogs, Inc., which was sold to AOL for $25 million. I'm at Affiliate Summit in Las Vegas where Jason Calacanis delivered the keynote address this morning. I really didn't know anything about Jason as a person, so I was looking forward to an insightful talk with fresh ideas. Wow, was I in for a... Continue Reading
