Apart from Twitter's own terms of service which prohibit obvious things like harassment, transmitting viruses and spamming other members, there really aren't many rules to the site. You can essentially use Twitter however you like. However, for people and businesses who want to use Twitter successfully (eg: build a following and grow their circle of influence), there are a number of best practices that can be observed. With Twitter becoming such a powerful force on the social media scene, there are those who get it and those who don't get it. This week, I had the pleasure of being asked to speak to Microsoft employees on the subject of Twitter. Eckhart Boehme invited me to talk about how businesses are using Twitter, demonstrating that Microsoft is taking a very engaged position on social media. Social Media is all the buzz right now. It started with MySpace, continued with YouTube and has brought about Facebook, Twitter and a host of other sites promising the help people interact in new ways. These sites have become very popular and two were purchased for a tidy sum. Rupert Murdoch's News Corp purchased MySpace for $580 million and Google bought YouTube for for $1.65 BILLION. Let's face it.
Google's AdSense program is absolutely ingenious.
It's not perfect, but it is ingenious.
Occasionally, an ad will display that is not relevant to the content on the page. But more often than not, the AdSense bot knows what ads to show.
This was never truer than the ad I saw displayed on my blog entry from yesterday.

By now, everyone and their dog has seen the hilarious Election 2004 political parody at JibJab.com. Their "This Land is Your Land" parody of Bush and Kerry, et al, stormed the Internet and skyrocketed their web site to instant fame.
