What This Blog is About

Posted on October 12, 2010 10:00 AM

If you have been following this blog for any time, you probably know that it is not like other blogs. I don't have a template or formula for this blog. It is mine and I use it however I want. When I started blogging in 2003, my first entries were about my dog, my family and my travels. I blogged about my political views, current events and films I had recently seen. Then it happened... Posted on May 10, 2010 1:06 PM

(Written by guest contributor Fletcher Groeneman) Last time we discussed the first step in the process of branding, "know yourself." This time I would like to build on that foundation. If you feel you have a solid idea of what you or your product wants to become, it is time to learn how to best present it. While it's true you may have a great product, every product has its weaknesses. The good news is... Continue Reading

Make Money Blogging

Posted on March 25, 2010 11:34 AM

I've been blogging since 2003. I started JoelComm.com as a personal site where I could write articles about whatever I wanted. I wrote about my family, my travels, my dog, movie reviews, computer games and whatever else crossed my mind. But as I began taking my blog more seriously, I began creating more original content that brought value to others. My expertise in online business, site monetization, iPhone applications and other areas proved valuable for... Continue Reading

Thanksgiving at the Simkins' 2009

Posted on November 27, 2009 11:08 AM

I grew up in northern suburbs of Chicago. You know all the John Hughes' films like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science? They were either filmed or supposed to have taken place in the region where I was raised. In fact, there is a scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off that was filmed outside my old high school, Glenbrook North. Ferris' sister is outside the school and a bunch of kids are running... Rare collectibles - Myst Puzzle and Extremely Rare Jim Henson Muppet

Posted on November 8, 2009 9:29 PM

I have a confession to make. I am a packrat. It's not like when I die they are going to find stacks of National Geographic magazines in my house, but I do have a tendency to hold on to stuff that I think is cool. My old software collection always blows away people who visit my home. Perhaps I'll make a video of that someday. Continue Reading

It's all your fault. I'm not going to beat about the bush. Nor am I going to try to save your feelings. I'm going to be brutally honest because I think direct is always the best way to go - and because you can handle it. It's all because of you. Continue Reading

Feed Me Seymour!

Posted on February 23, 2008 12:47 AM

What are people talking about when they talk about RSS feeds? Let me make it simple. In fact, let me make it REAL simple. RSS stands for "really simple syndication". Basically, it is a format for distributing and gathering content from various sources across the web. This can include newspapers, magazines and ablogs. Using something called a "news reader", you can monitor headlines and summaries from many of your favorite sources without having to go... Continue Reading

Making Videos

I finally persuaded my mother to buy a video camera to take with her on her adventure travel excursions. She bit the bullet, got a Sony camcorder, and shot some video on her recent visit to Tibet.
