When I say the words “My Little Pony”, what do you think of?
If you have a daughter, thoughts may go to Saturday mornings and selecting adorable action figures at Toys ‘R Us.
But would you ever associate the television show, created for pre-teen and teenage girls, with say… young men ages sixteen to twenty-four?
Buckle up, because there are millions of “Bronies” out there, and they LOVE the magical world of Equestria and its’ roster of eccentric and unusual characters.
Why would I write about My Little Pony? Surely there MUST be a reason? There is…
My son, Zach Comm, is one of the Bronies that I referred to earlier. Currently twenty-one years old, an avid computer gamer and responsibly working on his career, Zach is enamored with the television cartoon My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Zach recently had the opportunity to share his passion for ponies with an audience of several hundred people at Ignite: Fort Collins.
I have spoken to thousands of people all over the world, but this was Zach’s first time on stage… ever. And he absolutely knocked it out of the park!
They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. While Zach has some similarities to me, he is his own man and I’m very proud of him. His natural abilities to speak before an audience totally dwarfed my initial talks.
Check out his 5-minute talk below. Not only will you be impressed with Zach’s speaking debut, but I think you’ll learning something about the phenomenon of cartoon ponies. You might even find yourself checking out the show. Enjoy, and be sure to leave your comments below.
