When you hear a KaChing in a store, it can only mean one thing. The store's made money. Someone's bought something. They've given money to the store's owner and they've walked away with a product they're going to enjoy.
But before that KaChing, there were a number of smaller rings. You won't have heard them but you can be sure the store's owner did.
There was a small ring when he found a good location for his store. There was another ring when he signed the contract with his suppliers on terms that meant he could make a profit. There was a ring when he decided what kind of brand he wanted to build, and there was a ring too when he opened the doors for the first time and saw people walk in and browse the goods.
All of those rings came together to create that KaChing.
You get those rings too when you're building an online business. When you buy a domain name, there's a ring, even if you haven't put anything on it yet. When you publish a blog post, there's a ring, even if no one's seen it yet. When you join an affiliate program, there's a ring, even if you've yet to paste the code onto your Web pages.
In fact, those rings are happening all the time. Whenever someone stops by your website to read your content, you're getting a ring. You can see the impressions those rings leave behind when you log in to the backend and take a look at your stats. Each of those views is a little ring of success of its own.
Those rings should encourage you. Don't mistake them for KaChings. They're not the same. Only a KaChing brings cash. But they are steps on the road towards that KaChing. As they get louder and louder - as your views increase, your links grow, and the content on your site increases - you'll find that those rings start to sound closer and closer to something like a KaChing. And that's when you get the sound - and the money -- itself.
Watch for my new book coming out this summer, KaChing: How to Build an Online Business that Pays and Pays

Hi Joel,
I can relate to your post. I have been building a site for about a year. It still needs a lot of work but my traffic continues to grow from month to month. If you look at the overall numbers it is not that exciting but to see the numbers growing is pretty reassuring to me. It is like a snowball going down a hill. I wish someone would give it a push!
I'm determined to be successful and will continue to do whatever is necessary to make it happen.
Thanks for you encouraging words.
Best regards,
Chris
Never thought of it that way .... a lot of rings on the way to a Kaching! I love the imagery of that! "Kaching" the book has just been added to my list of books to read - look forward to its publication announcement

Joel,
Many times we do have little successes that do lead to the BIG ONE. Even though it doesn't seem like we are making progress, ONE day it all pays off.
Sometimes we just don't know what one more little step will lead to, but we still need to take each of them by faith, don't we?
Joel,
I remember when my father and I owned a physical store and had to man the cash registers (ie babysit our store)... I'd hear that KaChing with every sale.
Getting email sales notifications sure beats the heck out of standing at a register all day!
Looking forward to the new book.

Hey Joel,
You do make an excellent point... I have seen many startups go bust because they just kept waiting for non-stop 'KaChing's but didn't bother acknowledging the 'rings'.
As they say... you have to learn to walk before you can run. Everytime I see 'Payment Notification' in my email, I go KaChing... dorky, I know... but it does keep my work easy-spirited.
I wish you and yours hear many KaChings for the many years of Rings you've put into your business! Best wishes!

Funny,
Having just read your post about KaChing, I had to laugh, I thought it was the program KaChing KaChing I just got done researching that you were promoting? lol
Success to all,
Hi Joel
I have enjoyed all your books. I am looking forward for this one. Please keep us posted. All your books are tried and tested methods to make money online. Thanks.
This post has expanded my mind. I have sites and google adds and I drive traffic to them and I make over 1K per month. These are things I have learned from you, Joel.
I have been afraid to get into affilate marketing. Now I know it is a part of the Kaching.
Thank you
Connie
Thanks Joel for the encouragement! What you said in your last paragraph, "As they get louder and louder - as your views increase, your links grow, and the content on your site increases -" says consistency and daily work will pay off. Thanks.
This is so True. I remember when I was getting page impressions on my adsense and I had to admit they made me smile. And having the experience of getting a few clicks is amazing. Now waiting for that big Kaching when Google sends in the check.
Each one of these comments, too, are rings. Reminds me of the water hyacinth. It doesn't seem to be growing, but it is, quietly... until one day, an entire pond is filled with the blossoms of this amazing plant! I wanted to add a ring for you, Joel. Love your stuff. Look forward to the book. Thanks for the ring of inspiration!
Hi Joel,
This was the right post at the right time for me. I just started taking my blog seriously and have been getting the rings leading to....
I found you through Paul Myers and ordered Ad Sense Code. I look forward to reading it and your book this summer.
Thanks
Mike
Great information as always! Will definitely put these pointers to use.
Indeed, this is so true ... And everybody here must say a huge Thank You to Joel because of allowing us to comment here as well. This is another ring in our businesses, too !!
Thank you, good friend!
