The Leader - An Anonymous Poem

Posted on December 4, 2005 11:21 PM by Joel Comm

Here's an interesting story out of Pakistan.

Pakistan censors poetic salute to Bush by Isambard Wilkinson in Islamabad (12/05/2005)

A poem in a school textbook has been removed by embarrassed education officials in Pakistan after it was found that the first letters of each line spelt out "President George W Bush."

The 20-line anonymous poem, The Leader, lists the qualities of "a man who will do what he must" and bears a passing resemblance to Rudyard Kipling's If.

I'm sorry but this poem does not have even a "passing" resemblance to Kipling's "If". Bush could learn a lot by reading "If" and put the words of wisdom into practice...especially the part about "don't deal in lies".

I wonder if the "anonymous" writer is the same as the ones who have paid to have the positive "news" stories about the US invasion and occupation of Iraq put into their papers.

It's amazing that words can be assembled into such statments. You would think that the letters would collapse in on themselves from embarassment, someone put a lot of effort into creating something that is fundamentally flawed down to the atomic level.

  3. Gwwiz Says:

Those who oppose our President on fighting this war are electively ignorant, inherently cowards, or both. ((That you can read, thank a teacher; That you do it in english, thank a soldier))

  4. SurvivoR Says:

    BUSH SUCKS

  5. June Says:

Those who oppose people having the courage to speak up against the government are the very example of what this country was founded to fight. We have the right to oppose Bush's war or any other president's war without having to be subjected to harrassment and name calling. However, because we have freedom of speech, some people take the opportunity to do so.

As a teacher, I say you are welcome you can read. Now go and read something that will improve your mind. As a civilian freedom fighter, I also say you are also welcome to still have your freedoms. Not all who fight for freedom are soldiers in bloody wars. We teachers do so every day in the classroom. We fight the impulse of administrators to limit the humanities so that math and science courses can excel. We need the humanities classes to keep us in touch with history and much more. I would hate to see what this country would become if we no longer taught the humanities. It would become inhumane.

My question is, who do you thank if you can read in more than one language?? Being bi-lingual gives one great advantages. Not just in the obvious ways, but in the fact that when you study another language, one learns more about how one's first language works.

A brief history lesson...the reason most of us speak and read English in this country is not because of soldiers today, but the British fighters against the French during the French-Indian War prior to the American Revolution. (Interesting that in our war against the English later in the 18th century, our greatest and oldest allies have been the French. And then the first chance they take to disagree with us, we turn our backs on them and accuse them of being against us.)

Bush is a liar, not a prophet.

He just paved the way for more hatred.

Freedom isnt free here. Give to live, but take your free meal, and then spend your life living in a cell.

Try walkin in the ghetto of our own country and maybe all the smugness of a deranged super-power will give way to the sadness and heartbreak of this countries next generation.

I pray for the day when I get outta this country, as I am tired of slaving away to make other men rich.

Gotta love amendment one of the true constitution of the US.

    BILL OF RIGHTS.

  7. Bob D. Says:

So leave? Who's stopping you? One less idiot is always good for America.

  8. Joel Says:

And if it weren't for us, the French would be speaking GERMAN today.

  9. June Says:

And if it weren't for the masacre of millions of natives here in North America by European invaders, we would still be speaking Cherokee, Comanche, Arapaho, Pima, Kiowa etc., etc.

So what's your point? That English is an inherently better language? How bigoted.

  10. Joel Says:

It is because of absurd conclusions like this that there is no sense in debating with extremist liberals. Perhaps Michael Savage is right. Liberalism is a mental disorder... I see a future blog entry on the horizon.

  11. menj Says:

Interesting poetry there. Unfortunately 99.99% of it is simply untrue.

Now, if only this were applied to Kerry... :)

Check out a site dedicated to the absurdity and satire nature of saying "It's All George Bush's Fault!"
