Naturally, The Matrix Reloaded faced many challenges, not the least of which was being the sequel to The Matrix. With that said, the film was a disappointment on several levels.

1) The Matrix had so many "wow" moments that I lost track. Discovering the nature of the Matrix. Seeing Neo take the pill that opened his eyes to the truth. Bullet time. Incredible special effects. Intense action. A killer plot concluding with a dynamite ending. They could have left the movie alone and I would have been content to imagine what happened next. Unfortunately, The Matrix Reloaded did not have a fraction of "wow" moments. Yes, there were a few new cool characters (the twins). Yes, the special effects were taken up a notch. But I walked away from it thinking, "so what?"

2) I realize that I am probably too stupid to figure out the convuluted philosophy. Or perhas it just failed to hold my interest. Something about the storyline seemed smaller than the first movie. Whereas I found The Matrix to engaging and thought provoking, the sequel tried to hard to be thoughtful, mostly coming off as pretentious. By the time the movie reached the end, I hardly cared that Trinity was killed. I found myself almost emotionally void at a moment that should have wrenched my heart. And the architect? I snickered to myself because he reminded me of a Batman arch-villian from the campy TV show.

3) What is with the Matrix orgy? And how about the preponderence of foul language? The first movie got along fine without g--damn this and shi* that.

4) Long drawn-out action sequences. The car chase could have been cut in half. While it was very cool, I felt like it was just filler... like many scenes in the movie. Every scene in The Matrix added to the overall experience. I feel like the Wachowskis ran out of ideas for this flick.

I have more thoughts, but it is late and I am tired. I am hopeful that I will enjoy the movie more when it comes out on DVD. I intend to read other's thoughts to see what they took away from the film. But I am even more hopeful that the writers saved up their best ideas for the conclusion, Matrix Revolution, which is due out before Christmas.

And that is the very reason I've waited this long to see it. Your thoughts seem to be the general reaction. It's like they thought, "Hmm... if we double up on CGI, then we can save money by skipping a story".

Today is my wife's birthday, and she really wants to see it, but I'm not expecting much. I'll let you know if my opinions vary much, which I'm doubting.

Matrix Reloaded is two hours and a half of feelings that can be easily compared to a two minutes orgasm

Excellent movie! excellent effects! excellent story!

    Matrix I = MS DOS
Matrix Reloaded = Windows XP with all its features installed

  3. Jan Mackay Says:

The Matrix reloaded was totally aweseom. I went into the theatre last night with no expectations and I was truely rewarded.

The film is totally awesome and the long action scene's are truely cool. How can you have short action scenes? Neo's character has heart and bare the thought of giving up so he fights on.

My thought is though, they are still in the Matrix even when they think they have unplugged. Oooooh we will find out in the final movie!

the matrix reloaded is most likely the best movie ever. you must be a complete idiot joel comm, you too ceezar.

  5. gijs Says:

first of all, the first part (the matrix) was better than the second part. why?, because in the second part(the matrix reloaded) there are some mistakes. for example: neo is fighting agent smith, after a while he fly's away, but why fighting if you can just fly away from it? The action in the second part is better than in the first part, but the fighting in the second part, doesn't make sense at al(it did in the first part). the filosofie in the second part is better (the conversation with the oracle, with the maker of the matrix).

conclusion: the matrix reloaded is a good movie, but a lot of things are wrong

  6. alice Says:

i agree, there is a lot of bullshit in reloaded: the sex (between trinity and neo) is a waste of time, the saving of the keymaker; neo could just fly away with the keymaker why the whole fight on the highway. The "fight"/discussion between the operator and his wife(does not add anything to the movie)

The matrix was much better then reloaded

  7. raquel Says:

    Matrix I = Unix
Matrix Reloaded = Gnome in GNU/Linux

  8. john goodman Says:

How can prats like you criticise the second movie like you do?
And as for not liking the 'orgy' it wasn't an orgy at all. People who say it is are sheep following the lead of 'critiques'.

Why don't you get a mind of your own?

  9. Joel Says:

Perhaps phentermine should take his own advice? Talk about nothing to say. Keep the change, bub.

  10. Kenneth Says:

The matrix Reloaded was better than the first one, what are you talking about. The action scenes are there to entertain. Maybe if you like long drawn out dramatic scenes go see opera

  11. sims Says:

The second Matrix movie was great and left me gagging for more. The last movie stunk, and left me thinking the whole thing was a complete waste of time.
