The continuing story of the Passion of the Christ continues to make big news in the entertainment industry.
As of this writing, the film has grossed $333,000,000 in the United States. It has grossed an additional $99,000,000 internationally, and it set a record for a single day opening in Italy just last night.
It now ranks as the #10 top grossing film of ALL TIME. Look at some of the movies it has passed by.
- Forest Gump
- The Lion King
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
By this time next week (April 15th), the film should pass Finding Nemo AND The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, to find its place at #8. Can there be any doubt that it is gunning for the #2 position, currently held by Star Wars, with a lifetime gross of $461,000,000?
The film has obviously resonated with a large audience, and it is destined to be a perenial classic.
Have you seen the film? What did you think?

Marketing no-brainer and miracle all in one. I'm waiting to see the numbers from Latin America.

Besides the immensity of the torture that Jesus received at the hands of the soldiers...I believe that watching Mary and Jesus and the LOVE each had for the other was overwhelmingly emotional.

I felt the same as Ann Marie. I saw the film the day it opened. I think it was the most important movie I've ever seen. Unlike most movies I go to see, The Passion of The Christ felt personal. As hard as it was to watch, I HAD to watch every second of it knowing that Jesus suffered through all of that for me.

I am surprised that it has not done better. I see, however, there are many parts of the world that it has yet to be released. Given that there are 2 billion people who profess to be Christians, and given that this film is fairly true to the biblical accounts, then it will do extremely well.
Many are searching for their own understanding of the truth. If this helps them find it, all the better.

I've heard many people say they are afraid to go see it due to the strong violence. Although I can understand their concerns, I wish even the more squeamish people out there would bite the bullet and go see this movie anyway. I just feel that, if Jesus could endure that suffering for us, the least we can do is sit through a graphic movie about it.

I am FINALLY viewing this movie this weekend:
I am a bit late, but I will be viewing this movie this weekend (March 2006)
and wanted to say I hope we have more movies that will effect lives as this movie.
I understand it takes determination to be an actor who is open about their Christianity in Hollywood.
Judge Reinhold (SP?) and his wife came to St. Louis this month and spoke at our church about the changes that are happening in Hollywood, and although it is difficult, they believe we will have more Christian movies and more family oriented material coming our way!
Our pastor flies to Hollywood one time per month to meet with his contacts (actors/producers)there to encourage and support that goal.
It is just one example of how one person said they were going to do their best to make a difference, and we heard testimonials from Hollywood that he is helping bring about change.
It is encouragement for the rest of us!

The Passion of the Christ is a great movie but even more so if you have a personal relationship with Jesus. Because He lives in my heart, the movie had a special meaning for me and I would suggest it to anybody.
Joel, your site is just AWESOME... I love it.
