The View from Here

Ah... Kauai.

We were here two years ago and had a great time. I think we did all the touristy stuff that week. Helicopter ride. Driving around both coasts... etc.

Last year we went to Maui, and although beautiful, it doesn't match Kauai for beauty. Maui was also way overpriced and I can't see going there again just for a vacation.

Anyhow, I don't think I've ever been in such need of a vacation and this Island seems like the perfect place to chill out, regroup and re-energize.

We're staying at the Marriott resort at Kalapaki Bay and managed to get a 10th floor oceanview room.

We got up very early due to a five-hour time change, grabbed some breakfast and headed for the pool. Just a couple hours in the hot sun started turning me a lovely shade of pink, so we're going to take it easy with sun exposure for the first day and do some exploration. Or maybe take a nap.

The pool here is huge, but its only four feet all the way around.

Do I look happy? :-)

Hi Joel, You won't need an alarm clock to wake you up the chickens will crow before sunrise trust me I know. They will even sing you a song in Hawaiian. If you don't hear the chickens then the locals had it for Breakfast. I once stayed at that Hotel too. Beside the rain off and on the weather is beautiful . Enjoy the local food Kulua pig, lomi salmon, chicken long rice and the last is the best POI. Sheldon

    Joel-
Actually, you do look happy! Rest well and enjoy your family. That's the part that really matters, but you know that already. Perhaps the show on Wed. could be part tour and part the regular show. Just a thought. I'd love it if it was all " tour", actually.

Hi Joel...glad you're enjoying Kauai. It's our favorite place too. We've been to the Marriott and the Hyatt (which was amazing).

One thing that you MUST do on Kauai is go get a Puka Dog. They are in the Poipu Shopping Village. A Puka Dog is a Hawaiian Style hotdog and you simply will NOT be the same after. (Tell Rick and Dominique that David sent you. We go "way back" to their first shop way out on the west coast of Kauai.)

Check out their site at www.pukadog.com

PukaDogs are absolutely delicious. You'll end up blogging about it too.

You are going to thank me, Joel. Trust me on this one. :-)

Hey Joel. You should be here in England. No chance of sunburn with our lovely cold weather. You can evan have a little snow at the moment just to make it more enjoyable!

    I'm only jealous!!!

    Enjoy your holiday.

Umm, Joel? Didn't anyone ever tell you when you start an in-the-sun regime you do it in 20-minute increments, gradually increasing them? 2 hours on your first day! You must be RED not pink!

Still, you make me jealous. They're talking snow next weekend in Ohio after 70-degree temps this past weekend. *sigh* Such is spring.

    Enjoy, recharge, renew!

Kauai is my favorite of the islands because it's the least commercial, lots of hiking and snorkeling; absolutely love the place. Have a great time!

  17. Connie Says:

Be sure to check out the "secret" beach about 4 miles south of Barking Sands. Don't swim there, ... rip tides and sharks. But, it is the most beautiful beach on the island by far. Pack a lunch because it is isolated/secluded.

    enjoy

I just missed you. We just got back from Kauai on Saturday from a 2 week vacation with my family. We actually stayed at the Marriott in Poipu, but had dinner at Dukes next to your resort for my birthday. I am actually wearing my Duke's t-shirt right now. My in-laws are there this week and I believe they are on the same floor with an ocean view in the same hotel as you. I am sure you must be neighbors!

    Have a great time!
