Amazingly, there are still liberals and democrats repeating the "Bush lied about WMDs" mantra. Let's put it to rest once and for all. Before we went to war in Iraq, what did DEMOCRATS say about the connection between Saddam and WMDs?
"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."
- President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998
"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
- President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998
"We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction."
- Madeline Albright, Feb 1, 1998
"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
- Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998
"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."
Letter to President Clinton.
- (D) Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, others, Oct. 9, 1998
"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998
"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999
"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them."
- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002
"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002
"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002
"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002
"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002
"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002
"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002
"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..."
- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003
Still think Bush lied?
Game. Set. Match. Checkmate, too.

September 2, 2004 12:54 PM
Do I still think Bush lied?
HELL YES!
September 2, 2004 02:41 PM
Uh, YEP!! Funny you didn't bother to post what the shrub and his minions said about WMDs....typical republican liar.
September 2, 2004 03:37 PM
I love this.
Despite all the evidence, including the 9/11 Commission, people still accuse him of lying.
Can you say brain-dead?
Probably not.
September 2, 2004 05:01 PM
"...how do you ask a man to be the last man to die in Iraq? How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?"
September 2, 2004 05:32 PM
So let me get this straight. Liberating the Iraqi people from a brutal dictator and spreading democracy is a mistake? I suppose liberating the Jews and other prisoners from the concentration camps was a mistake too?
I'm very sorry, but your sense of right and wrong is flip-flopped.
September 2, 2004 05:34 PM
Reneek,
Why am I a liar for posting what the Dems said? I don't NEED to post what the Republicans said. They agreed! Saddam had WMDs!
September 2, 2004 06:33 PM
Bob, you argument is pointless and does not hold water. You can't break something this complicated down in such a childish way. Time to be a big boy for once and use the brains god gave you.
So I guess it is our duty to go after every dictator in the world, right? Then why don't we do that? There are plenty to choose from.
Comparing Saddam Hussein to Hitler shows your painfully low intelligence level. You obviously know NOTHING about history.
The WWII line might look good in print but it is just plain stupid.
Try getting your news some place other than Fox for once.

Maybe, just maybe, the reason a lot of us originally thought going into Iraq was a good idea was because we were LIED TO by BUSH. If you are blind to the Bush administration corruption you are trying to NOT see the truth.
Bush had his chance and failed every step of the way. Hey great economy Bush! Another million and a half Americans just slipped into poverty. Way to go Champ, you deserve another vacation! I can't believe Bush has only spent 40% of his presidency on vacation, he really shouldn't work so hard.
And by the way Bush, no I don't feel safer because under your leadership I AM NOT SAFER!
September 6, 2004 08:27 PM
Truth said: "Maybe, just maybe, the reason a lot of us originally thought going into Iraq was a good idea was because we were LIED TO by BUSH."
If you feel you were lied to by Bush, then you must also feel lied to by Congress and John Kerry. They reviewed the same information Bush reviewed and CAME TO THE SAME CONCLUSIONS.
Who are you voting for this year?
September 7, 2004 10:34 PM
"Maybe, just maybe, the reason alot of us originally thought going into Iraq was a good idea is because we were LIED TO by BUSH! If you are blind to the Bush Administration corruption you are trying to NOT see the truth."
So you REALLY are passionate about the TRUTH, huh? And Bush lied to us, right? That's why we ALL agreed about Iraq...because Bush lied to us? Hmmmmm...
Well tell me something "TRUTH", how is it that Bush lies could be responsible for our COLLECTIVE resolve regarding the need to remove Saddam when many of the quotes that Joel Comm just shared in this post were made by DEMOCRATS in the year 1998? BEFORE BUSH WAS EVEN IN OFFICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's review, shall we?
Madeline Albright's quote: 1998
Bill Clinton's quote: 1998
ANOTHER Bill C. quote: 1998
Sandy Berger's 1998
Nancy Pelosi's 1998
(Oh and by the way...John Kerry also made several of his own quotes to the exact same effect around the same time frame and actually even before '98...back in 1996!...there's a little TRUTH I would think you would appreciate!)
So how about it, TRUTH?? Were all of these people making these comments in 1998 (and prior) also merely lied to by G.W. Bush????? Clearly, since G.W. BUSH wasn't even president at the time, these people were not basing their opinions on anything he said. (which makes your comments absolute hogwash) And you have the NERVE to tell us that WE are blind to the TRUTH? You can't even read a bunch of quotes, see the dates attached to them and do the SIMPLE MATH!!!!!!!!!! ("TRUTH?".....oh man...YOU crack me up!)
And as for the comments posted by "Kerry" here about how ignorant it is to compare Saddam to Hitler...well "Kerry", you just show your OWN baffling, mind-boggling ignorance if you can't see the similarities between Hitler and Saddam. You liberals are so pathetic the way you refuse to see EVIL when it stares you in your FACE! Saddam GASSED his own people...men, women and BABIES!!!! And no, that ain't just some SOUNDBITE from Fox News....it's REAL! It HAPPENED!! Do you understand that, "KERRY?" Thousands upon thousands of men, women and babies!!! Babies still in their mothers arms!!!!!!!!! (I saw those photos!!) Is any of this sinking in yet "Kerry"??????
No,.......because all you liberals can see is that Saddam didn't kill 6 million people, so therefore...there's no comparison that can be made between he and Hitler. Well BOLOGNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The comparison is completely justified...evil is evil is evil!
Would it have been better if we all sat around on our duffs and waited until Saddam DID SLAUGHTER 6 million people?? Would THAT have been reason enough to go get Saddam out of power???? NO!! Because then what all you liberals would be shouting at the top of your lungs is: "Why wasn't something done about this madman SOONER???? This is an OUTRAGE!!!"
I think you need to stop getting your news from CNN and "BS"NBC.

Something to think about....if Bush is so worried about WMD, why didn't he send our troops to N.Korea?
Also, PRIOR to September 11, 2001, it is a known fact that Human Rights (HR) are violated in many countries. We cannot police all countries. So why all of a sudden IRAQ do we bring up HUMAN RIGHTS and how GREAT Bush is for helping the people of IRAQ. Why doesn't he help the people of all countries that HR are violated.
Do you think Bush will eventually send troops everywhere in order to make the world safe?
Do you think he will eventually realize he needs a plan...a STRATEGIC PLAN BEFORE acting out.
Also, the need to discuss this plan with our neighbors, not just act alone, do you think THAT thought will cross his mind?
The REAL reason the USA is in IRAQ is G W Bush is mad that DADDY Bush almost got killed by Saddam.
If Daddy Bush were my Dad, I would be angry also. However, I would NOT send innocent men and women of the USA to fight a war JUST BECAUSE I WAS ANGRY.
We need someone new in office to smooth relations with other countries and PLAN on getting our service people HOME.
If you do not truly understand that issue, then I truly feel sorry for you.
September 9, 2004 03:21 PM
Diane said: "If Daddy Bush were my Dad, I would be angry also. However, I would NOT send innocent men and women of the USA to fight a war JUST BECAUSE I WAS ANGRY."
Can you show me some proof that this is why we went to war with Iraq or is this just your personal belief we're supposed to embrace as truth?
September 11, 2004 10:31 PM
It's amazing how the liberals in this country can blame George W. Bush for a inept President Clinton who could do nomore than run his mouth. I see where Diane Offut mentioned North Korea I guess she forgot that Clinton ok'd the sale of sensitive missle delivery technology by Raytheon to the North Koreans. If Bush lied about WMD's why
did Libya decide to cooperate?
The proof is there for them to read and they still don't get it. None are so blind as those who will not see. If reading what the leading democracts had said maybe they should go back to the time right after the 1st Gulf War and see what
Saddam did to his own people or back to the Iraqi Iranian War beacuse he has used WMD'S.

Saddens me we have so many uninformed people in my country whom I defend with my life everyday. We do have troops in Korea. We've been daring them to act with their massive aresonal... again... (they did break the original peace treaty do not forget).. for half a centuary. UN Sec. Res. 1441 3rd paragraph, "Iraq is an INTERNATIONAL _THREAT_ to peace and security." All 15 members on the UNSC that day voted yes.. Saddam was a global threat, and had ties to terrorism. Read it. They also concluded the cease-fire conditions set down for Saddam after Operation Desert Storm, 1991, under UNSCR 687... where... never.... meet.
No cease-fire? No peace? War continued. Clinton promised us he would remove this severest of global threats in 1998. I reenlisted on Jan. 18, 1998, becuase my then Commander-in-Chief said my country needed me.. to fight against a global threat called Saddam Hussein who threaten your and my family with weapons of mass destruction and his ties with terrorists.
A senator from MA, John Kerry, told us, "If you don't think Saddam Hussein is a threat NUCLEAR weapons, do not vote for me." Jan. 31, 2003, 2 days after Hans Blix report to the UN saying how they had some cooperation, and some harrasements. And 2 days after this President Bush's speech that Saddam had remained to deter the peace initiative set for against him over 13 years before.
I have a brain, I have a heart to serve my country. I have the courage to defend you when you don't even know what is out there trying to destroy you. You are welcome.
July 17, 2005 06:10 PM
I noticed one really bright guy up there said that comparing Saddam Hussein to Hitler is stupid. Of course Liberals like Neville Chamberline did not believe Hitler was like Hitler until he used his arsenal for the only thing you use arsenals for.
October 13, 2005 11:19 PM
I'll admit to not entirely reading each and every post under this topic, but from what I did read I found that there are too many liberals spouting their ideas. Look at the facts, that's all I have to say. No body knows what kind of information Bush was recieving at the time. Additionaly, look at all of the supportive words that were brought towards this subject by numerous liberals. Republicans act on reason. Liberals base their actions on feelings and emotions. That is why they all are blaming Bush for killing the troops. They think that it NOW is a bad idea. WRONG! Finish wht was started. Furthermore, I don't believe that any of you have heard about what Denzel Washington had done for the troops. He visited an army base of some sort and made a wealthy contribution via check. Why did no one hear of this? Because liberal hippies own the media, and no one wants to show anything to the world that is pro-war. Screw all of this Bush-bashing. As for that mother of the kid who died over in Iraq, he volunteered because he wanted to. She's bitching for the fame and because she's a damn liberal. No one knows the real story because the media is full of liberals.

A crazy wingnut on another board cited to this little page and I thought it was funny. It is still amusing to me that so many of you folks point to these statements as if they prove anything.
1. Pre-2002 statements were made without inspectors based on assumptions from conduct. They weren't applicable in 2003.
2. They were based on lies being fed to Congress by the Administration. The belief of some Democrats that Saddam had WMD was based on false, cherry-picked intelligence from the Administration. Conclusions based thereon are therefore irrelevant.
