I'm not a big sports fan.
I used to watch a lot of baseball when I was a kid.
And I watched a good bit of football in college.
But as an adult, I just haven't made much time for sports.
I must confess, though, it is exciting to see the Colorado Rockies headed for the World Series.
We moved to Colorado last February, took in a game at Coor's Field on one of the hottest days this summer, and have followed the incredible winning streak that has brought the team to where they are today... facing the Boston Red Sox for the championship!
Yesterday, the Rockies web site had some serious issues and only 500 or so tickets for games 3, 4 and 5 were sold.
So today I joined countless others in trying to purchase tickets online when the sale went live at 12 noon.
What a disaster.
It was absolutely impossible to actually buy tickets.
I know someone must have successfully bought some as Rockies management says all the games are sold out. But we had five computers trying to hit the site and were unable to actually make any kind of purchase.
I believe Rockies management screwed up by proceeding with the sale in this manner.
The online sale became a capitalistic venture for profit hounds all over the country. Basically, people who had no intention of using the tickets were able to purchase them. For what purpose?
To scalp them on eBay, of course.

How should these tickets have been sold?
Either through a lottery system, like the Red Sox do, or at the box office. That way local fans who wanted to go would be standing in line to get their tickets. And those in other parts of the country who are in it just to turn a buck would not be able to get tickets.
I'm all for capitalism and turning a profit. But I think Rockies management really snubbed local fans by making it way to difficult for them to get tickets at a fair price.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
