A Visit to My Alternative Medicine Doctor

In this episode of Project Fit, I paid a visit to my alternative medicine doctor to get a second opinion on what I needed to do to become more healthy.
We discussed a number of things, including the foods I eat, my exercise plan and my cholesterol levels.
According to the American Cancer Society all men should be regularly checked for signs of prostate cancer at the age of fifty. I’m not fifty yet, but since I know several people who have been afflicted with this potentially deadly disease, I thought it would be wise to ask my doctor about it.

Mooooon Riverrr!!! Classic. Joel did this come to mind?
Joel,
Have Doctor Bill run a 25-OH vitamin D and a hs-CRP. These are two blood tests that we frequently run in our practice … both of which can tell your doc a lot your risks for cardiovascular disease. A standard lipid panel is good – but you should know more. Also, some recent studies show that getting your vitamin D levels up can help with your weightloss efforts.
Keep it up brother!
-Dr. Joe
He is right about breakfast. I was taught to eat like a King for breakfast, eat like a Queen for lunch and a pauper for dinner.
My Mom was big on breakfast.
Loosing weight is only half your battle. Making a long term life change is the hardest.
Hey Joel,
I have a buddy that shocked me. He too went to a natropathic Doc, and that guy told him that he needed to eat right for is blood type… What? Anyway, my buddy is 4 months into this deal and he looks leaner and meaner and more on his game than I have ever seen him.
I asked, and of course he told me he had been strict wih himself only eating the most beneficial foods on his list. WOW what a shocking difference.
He is blood type A, as am I, and he eats mostly vegetarian now. Still does a bit of fish and chicken but mostly vegetarian.
Apparently it’s about something called agglutination. When you eat a food, the effect it has on your blood is either to bind it into a chain of cells, called agglutination, or to do the opposite, which gives your body the free flowing performance based feeling of well being.
Eat right for your blood type is the name of the book that will peak your interest 🙂
Peace out bro,
Chris Endres
It sucks doesn’t it? You can’t eat the foods that you like and love, and have to eat healthy ALL the time. I know. I’ve gone through the same thing. I had to eliminate sodium (which is in everything).
After a while you get use to the new way of eating. Unfortunately, you have to eat home most of the time and prepare your own food. However, once you get use to it, it’s a piece of cake (bad metaphor).
Listen to the doc. Magic smoothies are NOT the way to go. Education, long term commitment and perseverance will WORK like magic for a lifetime of good health.
If you don’t like your nutrition doctor, then you will absolutely hate
Dr Mercola in Chicago. Unfortunately, he knows what he is talking about.
You’ll have at your finger tips a treasure trove of cutting-edge nutrition
information to help you achieve the fit, healthy sexy body you deserve.

Hey Joel!
Ok, your getting there. Did he run a test for 25-OH Vit D? Please make sure you get this test. I have NEVER tested anyone within that has been within normal range.
Also…what about your blood sugar? There are numbers important that you need that to evaluate biomarkers. I hope you are getting these. Maybe post all your test results?
Anyway…tip #6 (I think) Please look into insulin resistance. I have evaluated many patients and I am certain this is something you need to look into.
Remember – the power that made the body can heal the body!
Go Joel, Go!!
Best,
Dr Kelly
Joel, Dietary changes are easier if you make a mental shift. I saw your foot jiggling away! I don’t think you’ve made that mental shift yet. It will get easier. One day you may wonder how you ever even wanted to eat bacon. My first such shift was with chocolate covered doughnuts 🙂
Your doctor was right about breakfast. Eating a healthy, substantial breakfast reduces food cravings later in the day. He’s right that you need protein too. With Project Fit, you want to lose your weight from fat, not from just anywhere. Try to eat protein before and/or soon after your resistance workouts. Protein consumed at the right time, in conjunction with resistance training, can help re-build muscle, which burns more calories.
Here is an article on a Whey Protein Supplement study for greater fat loss. Of course, they didn’t study natural whey protein in food, as the study was funded by the supplement company. But you’ll get the idea about the value of whey protein in fat loss while retaining more lean muscle mass. Whey protein is found in milk, as are other proteins. Milk, with its protein and calcium, may help reduce fat as well as obesity related hypertension (if you tolerate milk). http://www.HowToGetBackInShape.com/Obesity-Articles.html
The more you think about what your foods are doing for and to your body, the easier it gets to eat better. Hang in there. You are heading in the right direction!
Hi Joel,
I invested over 25 years in alternative medicine research. Dr. Robert Rowen, MD is one of the most brilliant doctors I know and one of my Health Heroes. We have been friends for over 30 years. He is the Father Of Alternative Medicine Freedom in Alaska. I created a blog site for him using your Socrates theme at http://robert-rowen-md.com. He is an author and the editor for the “Second Opinion Newsletter.” There is a huge reservoir of articles from his paid newsletter there. To help educate the world he allowed me to publish numerous articles about health issues you are facing. I recommend you check some of them out on the HDL, LDL, cholesterol, Triglycerides, Exercise, prostate cancer, etc. Just do a search for what topics interest you.
Warm regards,
Ralph
