Did You Forget Something? Try Pagellan!

You are probably catching on to the fact that I am not promoting many products these days. That’s because most products and services coming out are not worth promoting.
When you see the proliferation of traffic products, social media products, list building products and all the other rehashed same-old, same-old coming out, I’m sure you’ll agree that there aren’t many original ideas out there right now.
So when I DO have something to share with you, I hope you will pay attention.
By now, many of you know Dan Nickerson, my Vice President of Ideas for the last three years.
Dan has been instrumental in creating some very successful products for me and my company. He has also been my sidekick on the Joel Comm Show
Dan is simply one of the most creative individuals I have ever known.
And with the change in my business focus, Dan has taken the opportunity to branch out and develop one of his own projects… and it’s a VERY COOL project!
Developed in secret the last couple of months, only a small number of people have been invited to join before now. So I’m really excited to share it with you today.
It’s called Pagellan.com and it’s a new way to store, categorize and archive knowledge in a social networking environment. (If you can read between the lines, you will realize that there is potential to make money involved here…)
Most of you have Twitter and Facebook accounts and each day you tweet or post updates about what’s going on with your life. And of course, I’m a big fan of both of those sites.
But Dan has come up with an interesting new angle that has caught my attention.
Every day you learn something new… whether it’s in your business or your personal life you acquire knowledge on a daily basis.
It could be a timesaver or shortcut. It could be a resource, a recipe, a fact or just a reminder to do something a certain way. Much of that knowledge you’ll forget. It will slip your mind. And even if you tweeted or posted to Facebook, it’s unlikely you’d be able to find that information in the future. Trust me, I’ve gone back to look for old info in my tweets to no avail.
What Dan has done is created a BRILLIANT social network based on “archivable knowledge” It allows you to create your own private or public knowledge base where up to 500 character posts are tagged, categorized and archived forever!
You can keep all your posts private or share them with the world. You can easily search and find all your private posts, and all public posts on virtually any topic.
There’s no spam or self promotion allowed in the public knowledge base.
Now there’s absolutely no cost to use the system.
HOWEVER (here comes the opportunity), Dan has also come up with an incredible advertising concept based on the thousands of “tags” Pagellan users will create (and are already creating!)
You may remember that several years ago I launched a site called 500Words.com. It was hugely popular and let users claim keyword tags to get a valuable backlink on the site forever. It was a huge success because keyword backlinks can be so valuable. I promised backlinks AND that the site would receive Google pagerank. It did both.
Well, these days everyone knows what “tag clouds” are.
Dan has taken these ideas one step further.. You can claim a “keyword tag” on Pagellan, get a valuable backlink and also a 250×250 ad unit on the tag result page..
Example: You have a recipe site, so you claim the tag “holiday recipes” before anyone else does. You can then place a keyword backlink and even display a 250×250 AdSense unit on the Pagellan tag page for “holiday recipes” for as low as $4.95 per month.
No one else will be able to advertise or link on that page. As Pagellan’s traffic and authority grows (as I believe it will) the link becomes more valuable and you can start generating income with the 250×250 ad block!
Are you beginning to grasp the potential?
Not only can you get valuable links to your site, but as you post valuable content on Pagellan you can become the recognized expert in your niche. That, in turn, can drive traffic to your profile and site. Pretty clever, huh?
Dan has given me the go-ahead to exclusively share Pagellan with you because I want you to have first shot at claiming your keyword tags. The program will soon open to affiliates and the general public, so this is your opportunity to register for an account and claim some of your keyword tags.
Want to see a demo of how it all works? Watch the video on the page at:
The site is FREE to use. Participation in the advertising program is totally optional, but can you imagine if Twitter let you sponsor #hashtags? How cool would that be?
There you have it. Go check out Pagellan and let me know what you think. I believe in what Dan has created and can see the knowledge base becoming something that could go very viral.

Wow!
This sounds very innovative!
How long has Pagellan been up?
On the site it says: We just launched November 15th 2010.
It already has a GPR 2 and ARank of 98,019
Incredible!
When Dan told me about this idea and said that it was his best idea EVER, I listened.
When the VP of Ideas says its his best one EVER, everyone should pay attention.
Run, don’t walk, to Pagellan!
Hi Joel,
This seems like a very interesting concept. Let me see if I have this correct. You basically buy a “tag” in which you can place an ad. That tag and ad then stay together until I presume you stop paying for it. You get the right tags now, before everyone else that could be a real advertising steam train.

Hey Joel,
Thanks for the information about Pagellan. I went and set up an account, but so far the experience has been mixed with the broken links, etc.
For example forty minutes after purchasing credits I am still waiting for the tag credits I purchased to appear in my account.
I trust this is because the site is new and these things will be ironed out soon.
Actually, I am looking forward to Pagellan’s success.
Hey Joel,
I figured I’d better update my last post and let everybody know Dan contacted me and got things straightened out.
Growing pains are to be expected, but it is a comfort to know people are on top of things too.
I just want to mention that Stew’s issue was resolved just minutes after his post here. Sometimes communication with Paypal might result in a credit not being applied. We will quickly resolve such issues, and actually are switching to Clickbank processing shortly.
Daniel,
Pagellan’s actually been live since 2005. There’s background info on the about page.
After signing up for the account, I’m still a little fuzzy on how it’s all going to work. Do I physically have to post to Pagellan or will it aggregate from my Twitter and Facebook posts?
It would also be helpful if the video would play on the about page.
Thanks – Isabella with http://www.referralmarketingmarathon.com
Pete,
You got it. The sooner you join the better tags you can claim and the more ad revenue you can potentially earn. As more and more people join and add content, all the links and ad units become more valuable.
Isabella, yes you have to physically post to Pagellan. Content on Twitter and Facebook is mostly dialogue, announcements or life updates. Pagellan is about knowledge and information to make your life easier. I will have some Twitter and FB integration in future though.
Reload the about page and you’ll find video link to download. I’ll do browser check to see what browser you had an issue with..
This is very interesting, and it will work with Google Caffeine, even though links are now no. 2 but activity is no 1… so being part of Pagellan can be interpreted as “activity”.
Thanks Joel, I’ll try
Regards
Michey
Wow. It looks great! I think I’ll try it out. I am also a person who has great ideas, but tend to not write them down and i forget. It looks like a great portal for various types of information. And great for socializing. Thank your vice president for such an innovative website.
So I’ve started my day with spam in my inbox from you wailing about the integrity of internet marketers.
You’re a funny guy.
