FleetMaster Races Up the International Game Center Charts
Last year my company released a revolutionary new platform for the iPhone.
It was called GameDock, and it was the world’s first multiplayer gaming platform for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
While OpenFeint and Plus+ were creating leaderboards and achievement functionality, we had done what no other developer had done… created a matching system that would allow you to add friends and invite them to play our games in real time from anywhere in the world.
GameDock came bundled with three games… FleetMaster (like battleship), Chess, and Blast4 (an original game that combines Connect 4 and Bejeweled-style gameplay).
GameDock was a revolutionary product, but shortly after it was released Apple made a game-changing announcement.
They were creating their OWN social gaming platform for the iPhone. It would be called Game Center.
At that moment we knew that GameDock would never receive the exposure that we had hoped.
But we were well aware that the games we had created were second-to-none, and that they could easily be modified to be played within Apple’s new Game Center platform.
Game Center rolled out just a few weeks ago and there are no a few hundred games available.
However, the majority of them do NOT have multiplayer matching capability! Most of them are only using the achievement and leaderboard framework.
Last week, all three of our games were approved into the Appstore with the Game Center-ready logo.
We have made them all available for free in order to gain a userbase. That has proven to be a very effective strategy.
As of today, FleetMaster has approximately 100,000 downloads. Blast4 is at 35,000.
But here is the most interesting part.
Fleetmaster, especially, is a huge hit internationally!
In the category of Games/Board, FleetMaster is or has been #1 in the U.K., France, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Greece, Finland, Switzerland and Denmark. In Spain, FleetMaster is the #5 app in the country!
But where are we charting in the United States? We’re barely on the radar.
Which begs this question…
Does International success with an app eventually lead to domestic success?
We are tracking the numbers closely to see what happens.
FleetMaster is a highly addictive game that our players are really enjoying. We’re working on an update right now. It will contain many of the new features people are asking for.
If you have an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 or 2nd Gen iPod Touch, you can download and play all three of our games for free. Here are the download links direct to the iTunes app store.

I heard David Hassellhauf is famous in Europe. Hope that’s not an indicator
Nothing but Amazing !
Setting aside the free price – aren’t the download numbers for FleetMaster very similar to the first week of iFart’s history? Were iFart’s sales concentrated in the US?
Raises interesting questions, regarding US sales vs. Europe (and Portugal…. why?)
Congrats to you and the JC Team.
This business gets more exciting as time goes by & guys like yourself just help to fuel the progression. Nice to see you leading the way forward Joel.
Making social media platforms more social.
