Getting Back to the Basics
In the fifteen years I’ve been doing business online, I’ve done just about everything.
In the beginning, it was all about content sites. My first domain, WorldVillage.com, is still online. In fact, it’s getting a facelift soon.
I started adding games to the site and soon launched ClassicGames.com. The site was acquired by Yahoo! in 1998.
As I became enamored with saving money online, I decided to build my own bargain-hunter site in 1999. DealofDay.com has since become a favorite site for finding deals. It’s hard to believe that the site just turned ten years old!
The Internet boom was a great time, but seeing the bubble burst wasn’t so much fun. It was challenging, but I knew the second wave would come. It was just a matter of time.
In 2004 I found a great way to monetize my content sites and I began earning a substantial income with Google AdSense.
As a result I wrote an ebook which went on to become the first of many which helped others learn how to make money with AdSense.
This book launched me into the infoproduct space. All of a sudden I was being asked to speak at live events and write books. Interviews, teleseminars and webinars became a regular part of my life.
Since then, I have had a number of successful books, products, videos, and even iPhone applications.
But the times they-are-a-changing. And change is indeed in the air.
Over the next few months, I’m going to be making some significant changes to my business.
One of the primary changes will be refocusing on my content sites.
I’ve always said that content is not just King… it’s all KA-Ching. It’s where the money is.
Creating and selling products is great.
But content creation is like building a house. It starts small and grows over time.
And it keeps earning all the while.
I’m not totally disappearing from the marketing scene. In fact, my new show will be released bi-weekly.
But I am making some strategic moves which will soon be evident.
It’s always a good thing to get back to the basics. Sometimes it just takes a long curvy road to get us there.

Joel, Your info products contain great content. I’m sure whatever area you focus on will be successful.
Love that headline. It’s the title of the book I released last week “Making the Best of Basics” by James Talmage Stevens.
James has sold 760,000 copies of the previous edition of Basics.. now over 30 years and in it’s 11th edition.
Funny thing is. He hasn’t really changed the message much. Just added content (it’s 502 pages of 8.5×11.. about 4x a regular book just by sheer volume 🙂
Once you get the basics down.. life is pretty simple
Great post, Joel. Looking forward to seeing the changes to your strategies and implementing the new content you create!
Maybe a JV with your 10yo website is in order. 😉
Joel,
The internet changes more often than a baby needs a new diaper it seems.
There is a never ending onslaught of “The NEXT BIG THING”. It’s difficult not to get sucked down into those Bunny Holes at times. But what you are taking about is exactly what I feel in my heart and that is “the basics”. I am excited and I am feeling refreshed in knowing I have you to travel the road with, to watch, learn and grow from.
Hangin in there until He comes,

I’ve been thinking this off and on for the past few years, actually. It’s amazing how much we fail not because things are too complicated but because we regularly fail to adhere to the most basic principles. I still have to remind myself of this almost every day, though. I like to make things complicated. 🙂
At 53 years young I’ve learned much from pros like you Joel.
I discovered I love to add cotnet to my blog and continualy expand my knowledge with my blog being home and as you say adding content.
I am seeing results after a most of this decade leanring and trying over and over.
It’s exciting to expand out but more exciting when money comes in regularily.
Obvious I know but so many don’t grow and stay in there.
The bennefits of being a little wiser maybe.
It helps that I am opinionated also for my content.
Welcome back Joel 🙂
