Got Word of Mouth? Check Out WOMMA

(Written by guest contributor Sarah Jane Griesemer)
WOMMA stands for Word of Mouth Marketing Association. The association was founded in 2007 to create ethical guidelines for word-of-mouth marketers, as well as offer educational resources, information, networking, and support to the industry.
The WOMMA site provides an unbelievable amount of free information in the form of definitions, reports, resources, tool kits, links, and more, all for free. If you are doing any word-of-mouth marketing or even thinking of starting a social media campaign, I suggest you spend some time on this site and explore the wealth of information available. Here are my tips to best consume this information:
1. Visit the Webinar Library and download the free guidebooks on the homepage.
Webinar Library– Here you’ll find a collection of webinars on every conceivable topic related to social media marketing and word-of-mouth campaigns.
WOM 101– This is an in-depth explanation of definitions and terms in word-of-mouth marketing. Find definitions of common terms, concepts of word-of-mouth marketing, and an introduction to word-of-mouth marketing.
Ethics Toolkit– Contains a questionnaire to help you determine if your word-of-mouth marketing campaign contains any questionable components.
2. View each of the three featured blogs and subscribe to the WOMMA Twitter account.
The WOMMA Word Daily
The blogs feature original content created by the WOMMA staff and pretty intense and comprehensive monitoring of word-of-mouth marketing news and information from around the Web. The Twitter feed will keep you in tune with the latest and greatest, including free podcasts and webinars.
3. Check out the case studies for inspiration, tips, and tricks.
The WOMMA site contains case studies for twenty-four different categories of word-of-mouth campaigns. It looks like most (if not all) of the campaigns were created by WOMMA members, but nonetheless it will provide an overabundance of new ideas and innovative tactics being used by some big-name marketers.
4. Visit the downloads section and get learning!
The WOMMA site hosts a large inventory of podcasts, webinars, and videos, which are available for free.
5. Create your own personal ethics checklist for viral campaigns.
Once you’ve investigated the wealth of resources available to you at WOMMA.org, take that knowledge and apply it to your business. Do you see eye to eye? What do you believe dictates an honest campaign?
