How Did We Meet?

I’d like for you to do me a favor today. I’m going to be brief because I’ve got a question and it won’t take long to ask it… nor for you to answer it.
How did we meet?
What I’m really curious about is how did we first cross paths?
In eighteen years of being online and creating businesses, products and services, I’ve done a lot of different things.
So just as someone might end up in the heart of the city by entering from any number of freeways, highways or side-streets, so also have the people who know me come to do so through a variety of avenues.
As we now interact and engage with social media so regularly, I thought it would be interested to go back to the beginning… seek out the origins of how those connections came to be.
Some of you are acquainted with my work from the previous decade, while others first learned about me from an application, a book or through social media.
I would really appreciate it if you would take just a moment to leave a comment below and tell me the story of how you first encountered me. And if we have met face-to-face, I’d really like to know where it happened and what you recall of our meeting!
I am very interested in making connections, so rest assured that I will be reading every comment posted.
And as an extra incentive, I’ll be giving away a copy of one of my books to one person who leaves a comment. The winner will be able to choose from my catalog and I’ll ship it to you personally autographed!
So, here are some of the ways you may have first encountered me. Please let me know if any of these represent you, or let me know if there is a way that I may have left off the list.
– Worldvillage.com (I used to run a virtual community and had one of the first live chat rooms on the web)
– Yahoo! Games
– Internet Family Fun: The Parents Guide to Safe Surfing (book published in 1997)
– DealofDay.com (one of the web’s first coupon and bargain-hunting sites)
– Google AdSense (either through my AdSense Secrets ebook or The AdSense Code book)
– Live Event (Your first exposure was seeing me speak somewhere or we just interacted at an event I was also attending)
– Podcast (You hadn’t heard of me until you heard my show or as a guest on someone else’s show)
– Twitter Power (you read my book)
– Social Media (you were introduced to me through a post on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, G+ or some other site)
– The Next Internet Millionaire (My reality show was the first time you saw me)
– iFart Mobile (You heard about me through my #1 iPhone application)
– Click Here to Order (Did you read my biography and history of Internet marketing book?)
– KaChing (perhaps you read this book first)
– The Socrates Theme (You heard about me through my best-selling WordPress theme)
– My weight-loss journey (You saw my video detailing how I dropped 50 pounds or read my Project Fit blog)
Of course, it might be that THIS blog post is the first time we’ve met. In which case, welcome to my world. I want to hear from you as well.
Please use the comments field below and fill me in! I would love to hear your story of how we met. 🙂

Joel, I think the first place I saw you was on a youtube video of an event you spoke at, I can’t remember which one it was. But really liked what I heard so I tracked down your “Next Internet Millionaire” show online and this blog and have been following you ever since. Really enjoyed your sharing of your personal side when you did the “new you” diet. Keep up the great work!
Joel, we haven’t yet met in person. I first discovered you when I picked up Twitter Power. When I tweeted how good it was, you responded… thanks for that! I’m an author myself, and replying to everyone can be tough, and I’m sure I don’t have a fan base anywhere near the size of yours! You’re in my next book, New Media for Designers + Builders, FWIW.
Never in person, Joel, but –
First contacts got back many years to a website about Villages, then from being on one of your lists I purchased and read your Best Seller books … I believe I’ve followed just about everything you have done, and a couple of weeks ago I was there when you visited Ken McArthur’s Phila event by Internet and of course I’m enjoying your newest productions – all GOOD STUFF!
I read your AdSense book, then subscribed to your mailing list.
Good call!
My first exposure to you was when you spoke on stage at the Peak Potentials Never Work Again event in Palm Springs in December 2009.
Recently we connected on LinkedIn and last Friday we actually met in person for the first time at the Social Media training in DTC (you gave a great presentation).
thanks!
We have not met personally. I am based in the Philippines and one day a couple of years ago, I became curious about earning online and one thing led to another and now I get your informative emails. I still don’t know how to earn from the internet. Programs I see are beyond my reach at the moment. Thanks anyway. Each day I am getting more and more resolved in trying to actually learn how to earn from the internet. Its just that there are so much offers out there that I get confused and end up with nothing.
Anyway, thank you for your mission of reaching out.
You bet!
I had to think about this, Joel. Seems like I’ve known you for a long time. I think it was an IM seminar, maybe Armand’s, probably over 10 years ago. I had my little yorkie Spencer with me, and you introduced yourself and wanted to take a picture for your family which also included a yorkie 🙂 Where does time go?
Ah, yes, I remember those cute little yorkies!
Hi Joel,
We have just met. I found this post in my Triberr stream. I’m very new to Triberr and fairly new to social media. You can find me at http://www.clarityfortheboss.com and http://www.jump-point.com.
Very nice to meet you and this is a great idea. Perhaps a year from now I will do the same thing!

Hello Joel,
I live in the South Of Turkey, a Dutch Citizen, and from 2/2006 able to be online I began researching in order to discover what had been going on in the big World. I focus on everything NEW, and coming from the USA, still do. Internet Marketing is/was what I had to know/learn about and at that time you were on of the few I felt good about. So I am still on your email list and I enjoy most of what you come up/out with, the professional, the personal. You have matured, and you have continued to be innnovative, a challenger, definitely a leader. If I want to know the latest: I check your website. Good reliable content. Thank you for that. Willy
Thanks Dr. Willy!
I’ve never heard of you before. But, better late than never.
Absolutely!
We didn’t yet meet in Person. Hopefully soon. Found out about you from the Book Adsense.
Aloha
Aloha!
Joel, our paths crossed through our mutual friends Lori Ruff, The LinkedIn Diva and Mike O’Neil, The LinkedIn Rock Star. They suggested I see your presentation in Denver recently. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend, but hope to meet you in person one day.
Yes!
We met at a Peak Potentials event called the Gorilla Marketing.
Where we were just monkeying around 😉
Hi Joel, I first discovered you from your initial AdSense eBook. I bought that and used what you taught to start making money with AdSense. Since then I have picked up a number of your suggestions or books you’ve published. I bought KaChing to make sure I got the KaChing Button which sits on my desk and gets used almost every day. I just love that sound. 😉 Most recently we met in person at Ray Edwards 3 day live intensive. It was a real pleasure meeting with you and getting to know you better. I appreciate the time you took to talk with me and share your great insight. As you know the result of that meeting is the co-authoring of your latest book “So What Do You Do” along with a group of rock stars. All I can say is; it’s a real honor and privilege to know you and work with you. I love your authenticity and your sense of purpose. You are a genius.
It’s great to know you as well, Mike. Thanks for your kind words 🙂
Hi Joel – I got connected with you in 2006, with Instant Adsense Templates, when you were located in Edmond, OK. I was just starting in Affiliate Marketing and created a Joel Comm email folder to hold your material I received. That’s how I can now say how we first crossed paths. I have never had the opportunity to meet you in person, but have followed you through your emails.
I have been on your list since 2006, which was before all the Social Media availability.
Thanks Joel for the expertise you have provided to many of us, trying to make it online.
While we have not personally met yet, I think the first time our cyber paths crossed was when I bought your “Kaching” book. I still pick it up and read a chapter here and there from time to time. And I still have that green Kaching button on my desk.
Hi Joel!
I had the pleasure of meeting you and your family during your Oklahoma – Henderson Hills days. I got to know when I was working for Ken Surritte. You were always one of my favorite phone callers and visitors because you were positive, creative, high-energy, FUN!!! Thank you for ALL you do to bless others!!!
I have been on your mailing list for years and years probably since the late 90’s. Have no idea how I got there 🙂 but glad I did. We finally met here in Colorado at a live event. Been awesome knowing you and learning from you.
Thanks so much,
Brad Dixon
We met at a Peak Potential event where you gave an excellent message on Adsense about 3 or 4 years ago. We spoke briefly after the event and I became a forever fan. It doesn’t take long to recognize character and integrity but in the details of our conversations they were shining brightly.
Wishing you and your family well.
Paulette Salvia
Exactly how we met is a little fuzzy, but I think what happened was that I listened to an interview series from Mark Joyner in which your name was mentioned along with the fact that you lived in Colorado. I believe that I then got an offer of some kind from Eric Holmlund that involved you and I accepted it. From there I got on your email list.
I think that I found you when I was searching Twitter before it was actually popular.
I am not sure of the conference, I think it was put on by Mike Filsaime, but you personally signed my copy of Adsense Secrets. Enjoyed it a lot. Made me want to try Internet Marketing.
Excellent!
Hi Joel,
We met several years ago at an SEO Pros conference in Atlanta put on by Brad Fallon. Nathan Anderson introduced us in the lounge. You were really engrossed with something on your laptop though, so I doubt if you remember me. As I recall you were trying to come up with a domain name for a new project and I gave you a couple of suggestions.
Warmest regards,
Ellery
I hope I didn’t come off as rude! I probably was engaged in something, but thanks for sharing ideas.
We met online a little over a year ago through a “social networking” site. Then we met in person once and you were so entertaining that I laughed for two hours straight. Signed, “Laughing Girl.”
Must have been a fun time. Was I laughing, too?
It was for me! Seldom do I meet people as silly as I am…I think you snuck in a guffaw or two.
Joel, we first met way back in 1996 or 1997. We either had exchanged links between our websites, maybe you were part of the chat network I was running or you might have been taking part in the edu content syndication network I published back then. Don’t remember exactly since it was so long ago.
Wow, that was a long time ago, huh?
Joel, we’ve yet to meet personally and I am actually a new fan of yours. I first heard about you through ClickBank and your Adsense Code book and now I am an avid listener of your podcast – the Joel Comm Show. I hope to meet you personally soon!
Excellent!
My dates get blurred sometimes 🙂
The very first time I met you was in Birmingham UK at Robert Puddy’ event. Mike Filsaime was there we had a great round table chats (which I still have the video of somewhere) and Alex Jeffreys was only just getting into IM after doing a lot on EBAY.
I then saw you again at TIMME2 along with Bob the Teacher, Glen Hopkins, Dan Kelly, Scott Tousignant, Matthew Glanfield, Tim Brocklehurst and a whole host of others. It seems like a long time ago!
I still have your adsense book from that event!
I first met you around December 2008 at a Harv Ecker seminar called Never Work Again. You spoke about blogging and google Adsense. Out of all the speakers, I enjoyed your seminar the best!
I met you at The Adsense Code book signing in Loveland Book Store, Dec. 2008.
Hello Joel
Well I haven’t yet met personally but I wish I could meet you (as we are presumed to be “terrorist” ) .Therefore my wish couldn’t be realized . You are my spiritual Teacher and I have learned from you and still learning. And Thanks God That there is no Barrier what so ever in this Virtual World, as there is no visa issuance process to visit any place in this Dimension .I hope one day you could arrange some seminar in Pakistan to deliver not only me but many like me awaiting to get Inspiring speech from you.
There are so many things to share and talk… But any way, Be Blessed and Keep it up.
Best and Profound Regards,
Raza M Yaseen

I was trying to figure out Adsense and discovered your book.
