How to Write Great Content

There is a lot that goes into running your online business. SEO, shopping carts, web design, social media promotions, information products, building an email list, and on and on. It can be tempting to get wrapped up in all of these things, and there is no denying that they are all very important to your business. But oftentimes people get so focused on and distracted by these things that they lose sight of what is probably the most important part of your website: its content. Now, it depends to a certain extent on exactly what your online business is, but by and large most websites live or die by their awesome content or lack thereof. People come back to YOUR site to buy products from YOU instead of the next guy for one reason: they like you and want to hear what you have to say. And how did they get to like you in the first place? You got it: you won them over with your stellar content. The importance of good content to your business simply cannot be overstated. So here are some things to keep in mind as you sit down to write your blog updates.

Be unique and interesting

Now you might be objecting that it is actually quite hard to say something unique; after all, there is nothing new under the sun. But the real key to being interesting is not spouting an opinion that people haven’t ever heard before, but that the ideas and opinions that you share on your site are actually yours. If you are sharing an opinion that is unique to you, then how you communicate it will end up being unique whether or not other people have written on the topic before. The point is that people have never heard YOU write about this before, and that is what they come to your website to read about. So find something you care deeply about, and find a way to express it that brings value to your readers, and start typing.

Do something

Lots of people read websites and surf blogs to try to improve themselves in some way. This means that they are looking for mentors and some guidance and inspiration to achieve their dreams. One of the best ways to acquire a loyal audience who will hang on your every word is to DO SOMETHING. Something hard, something impressive, something that everybody (or at least enough people) would love to do themselves, something that seems to be elusive to people. Examples would be losing weight, getting out of debt, making a million dollars, writing a book, etc. Do the thing yourself, and then write about it and you will find yourself encircled by traffic and students who want to achieve what you achieved. (Warning: Doing something hard is easier said than done, but if it wasn’t, everyone would do it.)

Reinvent it again and again

Don’t let your site stagnate. If you find yourself getting bored and your traffic waning, then it may be time to jump off the cliff all over again and try something new. Don’t be afraid to reinvent yourself just because you believe you’ve found a profitable niche. You would be surprised how your boredom with the site is a very reliable indicator of your audience’s mood as well. Keep trying new things to keep it fresh and interesting. And let us know how it goes!
