Joel at 225 Pounds

WARNING: What you are about to see may traumatize you. Parents of small children are cautioned from letting their kids see the photos on this page. I will not be held responsible if they have nightmares!

As you may know, I have struggled with my weight the bulk of my adult life. (See how I used the word “bulk” in a sentence? I’m a punny guy…)

There are two reasons this has been a problem for me.

#1 – I like to eat

#2 – I don’t like to exercise

Yes, I like to eat. A lot. I enjoy food. Mexican food, italian food, chinese food, american food… anything but fish is good in my book. I like food. A lot. Did I mention that I like eating? Just checking. I want to make sure we are on the same page.

I also like to eat out. Man, do they give you BIG portions when you go to Chili’s, Applebees, and The Olive Garden!

And as I said, I don’t like exercising. It’s just so much work!

That’s all well and good, until you put your health at risk.

I’ve been on medication for high blood pressure for several years now.

I feel sluggish many days because of the high sugar content in my diet.

I get winded very easily when climbing the stairs. This is not good.

So I decided it was time for a change. I determined that with God’s help, I would lose weight and get fit.

Now, there are a lot of different ways we are told that we can lose weight and get fit.

There’s the South Beach diet.

There’s the Atkin’s diet.

There’s the Hollywood Diet.

And who could forget the Chocolate Chip Cookie diet?

There are more fad diets than there are ways to put ON weight!

I don’t doubt that these work for some people, but they don’t work for me.

Then there are the various workouts that people participate in to lose weight and get fit.

It doesn’t matter to me what kind of workout you do.

I have discovered the best way to lose weight and get fit without any fad diets.

It’s radical. You may have a hard time grasping it, but here goes…

Eat less and exercise more.

Yes, that is the Joel Comm diet. Actually, it’s more of a lifestyle change than anything else.

Next week, I will be revealing to you specifics of what I have been doing.

But today I want to share with you photos of me that were taken the first week of September 2010.

This is me at 225 pounds. I am wearing size 40 pants that are tight. My gut is hanging out all over the place. It’s not a pretty sight.

Check out those chins in the next photo. My chins have chins.

Kids, this is what happens when you eat to much junk. I’m not even talking about junk food, per se. I don’t eat McDonalds or any of that stuff. This is just from eating at quality restaurants and enjoying large portions. It also doesn’t help that I’ve had a sweet tooth the size of my head. Man, I like chocolate cake and ice cream. And it shows…

I warned you beforehand, didn’t I? I was obese.

It’s now been three months since I started in on The Joel Comm Diet, aka: Eat Less and More Exercise. In fact, I even started a blog at ProjectFit.TV. Since it didn’t seem like many people were interested in watching me lose weight and get fit I didn’t continue it. But you can watch my earlier videos to get an idea of what I did.

I will be sharing current photos with you soon. And I’ll give you a hint. I don’t look like the guy in the photos above.

Stay tuned…

  1. Joel, even after you lose weight, you should take your belly fat as a lifelong warning that you are likely to become DIABETIC. One-third of all Americans are/will become diabetic, and most of them store fat in their bellies (rather than hips/buttocks).
Abdominal obesity comes from high blood insulin levels. To prevent blood sugar levels from rising too high after you eat, your pancreas releases insulin, which converts blood sugar to a type of fat called triglyceride. Insulin drives triglycerides into the fat cells in your belly. So having high triglycerides and a fat belly are signs of high blood insulin levels, and high blood levels of insulin constrict arteries to cause heart attacks. Insulin also acts on the brain to make you eat more and on your liver to manufacture more fat, and on the fat cells in your belly to store that fat.
The liver removes insulin from the bloodstream, but insulin causes fat to be deposited in the liver which prevents the liver from removing insulin from the bloodstream. People with fat bellies store too much fat in their livers, which prevents the livers from removing insulin, so insulin levels rise higher and higher to cause heart attacks, more abdominal obesity and eventually diabetes. If you store fat primarily in your belly, you should restrict refined carbohydrates: foods made with flour, white rice, milled corn or added sugars. You also need to exercise — regularly and intensely.
Sorry for the lecture, but you should be aware of this. It calls for PERMANENT lifestyle change.

  2. This is your launch, right? That’s cool!
I wonder if you can top my experience. I accidentally stumbled on a weight loss system that was so easy, I can’t believe it.
My effort was in response to something I read about Alzheimer’s disease. It said that eating the wrong carbs and too many carbs caused the arteries to the brain to block and viola you’re a victim. And I recalled Ronald Reagan who loved jelly beans and what sadly happened to him so…
I began to add certain nutrients and herbs to a daily smoothie or twice a day, and instantly lost all cravings for junk food.
It seems the body is starving, sending out signals to the brain to eat more in search of getting what it needs, and never really getting it.
So the simple answer is give it what it wants and needs and it is so easy, it will make you cry. Exercise helped too, but then again some works a lot better than others.

  3. Wow! I can relate to this! Food is good until you look in the mirror or even worse look at a photo of yourself. I agree those fad diets don’t work, neither does starving yourself. It has to be a lifestyle change. I like what Brian Tracy says: “if everyday you eat a bit less and exercise a bit more, you’ll lose weight.” Eating organic also helps you and the environment.

  4. I have been on every diet at least 3 times in the past 20 years. Each time I regained the weight plus 10. I had given up until I read about a line of low-glycemic products that have been out for about a year. They are patented (U.S.), 100% organic, fair-trade and the brainchild of Dr. Ann deWess Allen (Chief Researcher at the National Glycemic Research Institute in Washington, DC. I have been drinking 2 cups of their thermogenic (fat-burning) coffee a day. It gives me energy, clarity, and I don’t have to diet or exercise. It has caused me to eat smaller portions and has evened out my blood sugar. – No cravings. I am finally in control of my eating. I can’t exercise because I have Fibromyalgia and yet, after 6 months, I burned enough fat to go down 5 sizes. I have a passion to help other people who are in the position I once was: dieting, losing, and then regaining. Please check out my website @ http://www.SipYourselfSkinny.com. I became an independent distributor after seeing the success I achieved just by using their products. There are some people like me, who can’t exercise and battle with diets that don’t work. Not everyone is successful at a new lifestyle change. This coffee is a blessing in disguise.
Keep up the good work. I am very proud of you!

  5. Hey Joel, congrats on the results that you’re getting. We need to see the side-by-side photos so we can all see the results too!
It’s been one year since I started working out consistently. I’ve lost about 25 pounds of fat now am building lean muscle. It’s so rewarding to see that.

  6. All these fabulous diets and ideas are just so confusing I have discovered the only way one should diet and that is from the knowledge and research that has been gained from the research into the cells that we are made up off. so we start off and repair our body the two critical components for our journey back too optimum health. Our liver which we all know is our life!!
Then we need to repair our digestive system. Once we have done this with products that have been designed from the cellular level and they work.
Being laboratory tested. Quality guaranteed. Meets British Pharmacopoeia specifications for potency, uniformity and disintegration where applicable.Once our cells have been repaired our body will be on track to regain optimum health we start to take products to fight all the free radicals that are attacking our cell and all the minerals our cells need with all this in place radical things should start occurring to our body.We will have more energy and start a natural journey to better health and weight adjustment will occur with our new energy levels and more sensible eating habits. I have very personal experience and only want to share this with people who are willing to take my offer of help. It is a miracle. I cannot believe my fortune in this discovery. I am a Baby Boomer of the early fifties and I feel like a person born in the late eighties to early nineties it is an awesome feeling to regain ones youth. To have the blood pressure of an athletic teenager 83/63. I am blessed and so grateful to a very special person who I know will go down in History for what he has done for mankind.God bless. 7. Hi Joel
I signed up for your secret classroom series (good value) and during breaks I am looking through your blogs (to see what other knowledge I pick up).
Good luck with your weight loss.
I did the same as you, but only really needed to lose about 12 kg or so.
I just eat a little better, I threw out rubbish food from the house, I cut down junk food, I walk briskly each day and go to the gym twice a week for a total of about 90 minutes.
If you have the will power to build your businesses so successfully, I’m sure you will have similar successs with your health.
    best wishes
