Read Up on Your Business

If you’re not regularly reading up on ways to make your online business grow, you should be. And while blogs and ebooks are extremely valuable, don’t overlook reading the old-fashioned way: print books. While some in the Internet world might argue that books are out of date the minute they hit the shelves, there is still a lot to be said for exposing yourself to ideas that stood the test of editors and publishers and were strong enough to make it to the physical page. There are several reasons to make reading a regular habit:

Stay on top of what’s current. Even though, as mentioned above, print books necessarily take longer from idea genesis to public consumption, it is still the preferred dissemination model of many of the smartest thinkers and businesspeople of our day. And whenever there is a book that everyone is talking about, you will definitely want to get your hands on it, so you can be informed, even if you don’t plan on implementing the ideas in your own life or blog and even if you don’t agree with them. Knowledge is power, so it’s good to stay on top of it.

Teach yourself what you need to know. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, you will want to read up on how to accomplish the myriad tasks that are necessarily to run successful websites and online businesses. And if you plan on outsourcing a lot of it, it will still be helpful to learn what’s working well in the business world today, and the latest thinking in management, because guess what? You’re going to be managing a lot of different people and have a lot of different balls in the air.

Motivate and organize yourself. Lots of the books we end up reviewing here on the Top One Report aren’t necessarily business books, but rather books that help with systems of organization or even ones that promote a way of looking at the world that can be particularly helpful to the modern businessperson. The point is to keep your eye out for books that look interesting that could also help your online business. Having trouble coming up with something useful to read?
