Reinvent Your Financial Future

(Written by guest contributor Loral Langemeier)
It’s time to have a conversation about rethinking your plans for your financial future. How do you revisit wealth building to put new cash in your pocket since you’ve gone through a prolonged period of financial turbulence? Let’s get that conversation going now, because…
It’s time to reacclimate yourself to the new economy. Much has changed. Old plans, old mindsets, and old strategies all need to be reset. It’s time for a new beginning, so here are some things I want you to consider:
1. Reset your life.
We need to learn from the past, but only so we can do better in the future. The world as we once knew it isn’t coming back. Don’t wait for that new manufacturing plant to open, or the old ways of doing business to return. They won’t.
The way we insure our health is going to change, one way or another. The way the stock market works is going to reset. Real estate markets are adjusting all over the place.
Now is the time to rethink your strategies.
What will this mean for you? This may mean relocating, or reinventing how you do what you do. Maybe the place you live is no longer a great place to do business. So move!
If you live in an area that’s hard on business, go somewhere else. You’ve done something before to make money. You can do it again in a place more conducive to your success.
2. Revisit your goals.
What are your plans? What do you want most? Are you playing to win or not to lose? Why are you doing what you’re doing now? This is the start of a new decade. Have you decided what you will do to put more cash in your pocket this year? What about in the future?
Whether you’ve written out your goals in the past or not, it’s time to reexamine them and commit them to paper. Your goals will never be as clear to you as when you take the time to write them down in detail. And clear goals are your road map pointing you in the direction in which you need to go.
3. Reeducate yourself.
We’ve just lived through the worst recession since the Great Depression. If you’ve taken a financial hit, you’re probably a little shy about getting back into it. You may not be sure what to do. So reassess your knowledge and learn.
By the end of last year the Wall Street Journal’s readership surpassed USA Today and became the most read paper in America. That’s a strong sign that people are reconsidering what they know about the economy and are filling their mind with facts, not fluff. Get in a conversation with people involved in business, and reeducate yourself about how this post-recession economy can work for you.
4. Reinvest!
Get off your lazy assets and put your money back to work. Will you invest in your own business or someone else’s? How will you take advantage of the current real estate markets? What’s your Cash Machine going to be? Adjusting your investments and strategies is a must. Get your money making money by reinvesting now.
5. Lastly, refine.
Refining means to make finer and what could be finer than being wealthier tomorrow than you are today? Refine your goals, refine your investments, and refine your team. You have a team, don’t you? Your team is your accountant, your tax adviser, your lawyer, your business planner – whoever has a hand in helping your money grow. Get reacquainted with them as a part of refining your plans for the future. Who’s who in your zoo? Don’t have a team? Get one!
Your only choice is to start where you are today. Reset, revisit, reengage, and refine your financial self to be ready for whatever comes.
Ready, go!
