Reno, Part Deux

The conference in Reno is going great. What a fantastic opportunity to face-to-face with so many of the people whom I have had the opportunity to work with online.

Back in a 1996, I had the privilage of being interviewed for the now-defunct Boardwatch Magazine by the infamous Bob Rankin, a tech guru from the dark ages of the online world. Dr. Bob, as he is known online, is the originator of the Internet Tourbus, a wonderful email publication that is read by tens of thousands of people each week. If you don’t get his newsletter, get on the bus! Anyhow, Dr. Bob and I have never met until yesterday. He is a gentleman and quite knowledgable about technology. He recently scanned a copy of the interview from 4/96 and placed it online. Click here to read it.

Another blast from my past is Michael Worth of Crewtags. Crew Tags manufactures brightly colored, personalized luggage tags to help you spot your bag on the carousel more easily. Michael was a sponsor of our online game, Trivia Hound, way back in 1998. The contest is no longer on the site, but I did find an archived copy on the Internet Wayback Machine. Michael is planning some pretty cool stuff. He and Tim Carter of “Ask the Builder” fame just returned from Mammoth Mountain, California, where they conquered the slopes. Well, Michael conquered the slopes. Tim messed up his legs. Bummer. You’ll be able to read more about their exploits soon at The Best Ski Resorts.

Also in attendance is nationally-known radio celebrity, internet guru and soon to be television star, David Lawrence. You may remember last fall when I took my family on a month-long road trip, I called in to David’s radio show each week for an update of our travels. David is a nice guy with a great sense of humor. You can catch his program, Online Tonight, on radio stations across the country, XM, Sirius and on the web.

It’s been a great time and I’ll be heading back home tomorrow. I’m looking forward to seeing Mary, Zach, Jenna, Socrates and my own pillow.
