Before you go any further, I must tell you that this article is NOT a movie review. Rather, it is a smack to the side of the head of Activision regarding the release of the new PC game of the same name.

spidermanpc.jpgAvailable last week, amidst much hype due to the release of the movie, Spiderman 2: The Game was promised to be an extremely open-ended game where you had all of Manhattan Island to face off against bad guys and do good deeds in a Grand Theft Auto III style. Not caring much for the violence in GTA III but hungry for a great game to play, I saw that it was available for PS2, Gamecube, X-Box and PC. Naturally, I picked up the PC version of the game at GameStop, along with the strategy guide containing maps of the entire city. Not only were they releasing a PC version, but it was $20 cheaper than the console versions! However, that should have been my first clue.

I installed the game, not wanting to look at the strategy guide until I needed to. About 30 minutes into the game, I realized that the play was very simplistic. And there was no key to press to view a map of the city! What had I gotten myself into?

I picked up the strategy guide attempting to figure out where I was and it dawned on me. “This is a DIFFERENT game than the console version!”. Gone was the open-ended structure. Gone were all the bonus missions. Gone was the promise of a GTA rich experience. In its place was a child’s game with very little promise.

A little research confirmed my disappointment.

So what has got me so hacked off? Activision packaged the game IDENTICAL to the console versions! They attempted to make it look like they were releasing the same game on the PC!

I phoned GameStop and told them about the mixup and they were very good about it. Typically, you can not return a video or computer game once you open it, but since they were clueless about it as well, they allowed me to trade it in for something else. Not really wanting much of anything, I picked up Pirates of the Caribbean. It didn’t get great reviews, but we’ll see if it is interesting at all.

  7. I find any movie video games are basically terrible and are only there to make a quick buck off of younger kids.
    Even young teenagers are starting to become aware that these games are garbage.
    Pirates, transformers, spiderman, and etc….

  8. Hey , I would seriously be pretty pissed off if I stumbled upon a situation like that. I supposed that majority would have reasonably taken things for granted that the different “versions” will only affect compatibility issues. Its like a whole new game with just the same title.

  13. TIP TO DEFEAT MYSTERIO…
    Downlod cheat program (search it) and put it in the system folder of spider-man 2.
    BY this program u got infinite health,super jumping & running power.
    Then stand before the mysterio as close as u can..& let the all rocks fall on u dont worry u have infinite health..then try to pick & throw last two or three remaining rock on the mysterio..it may took some time..also use ur intution regrading picking up the rock..
    This cheat program name is called “Trainer”…..its size is 26kb…i forgot the name of the site from where i download it..so plz search it..

  14. I read that you can hack the pc version to play as doc ock, a bit like the hack for Sonic The Fighters, allowing to play as hidden characters. I do not remember the exact website I read it on but it was a link on Google.

Well, for starters, let me just say that as long as most of you people have horrible grammar and spelling as this, you shouldn’t be posting ANYTHING on ANY website until you learn how to spell correctly ( I’d go back to third grade if I were you, maybe the kids the can teach you how to spell SPIDER and OCTOPUS correctly). Secondly, If anyone is still looking to play as Doctor Octopus and ,hold your applause, the Lizard, then just go to this website :

    Now, I can’t verify the validity of this website, but it seems to be more sensible then jumping in water to find a cheat menu or erasing all your data. I hope this solves the problem once and for all.

  18. Yeah, You’re not the REAL Salinium. I would not use such mundane, overused and moronic language as “LOL”. Also, the fact that you would impersonate me leads to believe that you have little to no social life in any sense of the term. The only reason my last (real) post was so angry sounding is due to the fact that most of these posts are so far from the fact that this thread no longer has any relevance, and if people keep on this path it (the thread) will have accomplished nothing more than waste space on the internet.

  19. You have serious personality disorders Salinium, from here you are responding to your own comment.. however this may not be the case at all. You say that you write “intelligently” when you have already stated to an anonymous user that “I’m fucking your mom while I write this”.. I do not see that as intelligent. I just find that sort of disturbing, especially because you go into the stereotypical mode of viewing everyone as if they were “Gay” E.g. “Sucking your dad’s dick” and as if you was superior. And to finish you have wrote on of those cheesy one liners at the end of your post “Get the skin grafts, you’ve been burnt”. As much as you try to convey your point in such a remote Thread, the latter follows. By this I mean that you are contradicting yourself, in this case you send a message saying that you do not use “LOL” and you try to personify yourself as “intelligent” whereas soon after you use demeaning phrases, that of a child, or at least someone that gets mad at the smallest things. This is also one of the causes of domestic violence. As Yoda said: Jealousy leads to hate, hate leads to fear and fear leads to suffering. And.. just to clarify, Salanium, I do not know who “impersonated” you, nor do I actually care. Your attitude towards others is reflected by your tone conveyed within your messages. I also do not know if you really do have a personality disorder, I do not know, however, I did see a less “Intelligent” quote lately online, maybe you could learn from it, as your messages to seem to give a sense of fighting spirit.

  21. Well.. I looked again at your first post Salinium, I must say you started off your message quite horribly. You straight away went into “attack” mode by saying that everybody in this Forum or “Thread” should not be allowed to make comments or express their opinion just because they made a few spelling errors? This is the internet Salinium, people have opinions, just as you do also. And each of them equally have their right to make an opinion, just like you left your opinion and “help” here in this very site. It was evident that you was trying to sort things out by trying to help out, being a “local hero”.. this was not necessary, but we do appreciate the help, without the attitude. And.. your advice on visiting third grade.. well.. I have friends online that are over 40 years old that type with spelling errors. You see.. the thing is Salinium.. is that, well, everybody is human, we all make mistakes, even spelling errors. This is not automatically assumed to be our level of intelligence, I mean, my Grandma, she has a Mobile Phone and she makes text messages to family, even making spelling errors and shortening words to make typing easier.. so it’s not always about how smart somebody is, nor is it about somebody’s age. I think it’s safe enough on this site for people to leave their opinions, even with spelling errors. Well.. i’m not trying to be smart, i’m just saying the facts. Nobody asked for you to put people down.     Back to the matter at hand.. Playing as “Doc Ock” in “Spider-Man 2”. If anybody has any information that would be great, we are all nice people so this is a friendly discussion.

  27. I have heard alot of you guys say how fighting mysterio is hard! It was really easy for me! I don’t know if my game glitched … but in the store, right when I am able to move, I jump at him. And while I am still in the air, I hit him and he is defeated!
