Tips for Writing Your Ebook

Of all the ways to make money online, writing a well-thought-out, well-researched, and relevant ebook can be one of the best ways to start earning some income on the side. Here are some things for you to consider as you endeavor to create and write your own ebook:
1. Choose a Great Topic
What exactly is a great topic? For starters, it’s one that you already know a lot about. But ideally it would be something that addresses a need that you’ve noticed needs filling. Perhaps you are way into shooting pool and have noticed (for example) that there is a dearth of information for intermediate pool players out there. You could set out to write an ebook on the topic and sell it to the people in your niche. Whatever topic you decide on, do a little online market research first to make sure that you are onto a profitable topic.
2. Research Your Material
Whether or not you already know a lot about your topic of choice, you should still research it to make sure you will be able to write the best ebook you possibly can. Use the Internet where applicable, go to the library and check out appropriate books, or call up experts in the field you are writing on and schedule some interviews. Remember that the more information you have on your subject, the more value you can give to potential buyers.
3. Make an Outline
Remember having to do this in school? Well, there’s a reason for it. Deciding how you are going to order and present your information ahead of time will make writing the thing much easier and will reduce the amount of editing and rewrites you will need to do. In addition, if you are planning on outsourcing the actual writing of the book itself, this will be something concrete you can give to whomever you hire and will make sure that all of the necessary bases are covered.
4. Write Your Book
Want to know a secret? Writing is hard, even if you know everything there is to know on butterfly collecting, or skeet shooting. Sit down to write with your solid outline and make yourself stick to it. Put yourself on a schedule with clear-cut goals, such as a certain number of pages you are going to write each day, or a word count. Decide in advance WHEN you are going to make time to write your ebook, and then keep your appointments with yourself. Don’t let yourself slack off your schedule, or you’ll find yourself with no ebook months down the road and wonder what happened. And if you are tempted to research and work on all of the things you will need to do after finishing your ebook, don’t. Just get the thing written and done first, and then worry about the rest, otherwise you will just use everything else as a procrastination device.
5. Review, Rewrite, Edit and Polish
Once you have put in all the information you think you want, read over your ebook and see if there are any parts that need to be rewritten. Definitely give the finished product to others before you try to sell it, and it is advisable to even go so far as to hire a professional copyeditor if neither you nor anyone you know possess those particular skills. Do everything you can to make your ebook as polished and ready as it can be before you send it out to the masses.
And there you have it! A nice, shiny ebook ready for sale on the topic of your choice! Have you already written an ebook and have some special insights into the process? Tell us about it in the comments, we’d love to hear from you!
